Coach 'em up Paul!
« on: September 23, 2014, 03:06:12 PM »
I love the indoctrination of all Iowa State fans into the idea that Coach Rhoads will surely succeed with true grit and good old fashioned work ethic!

He's absolutely perfect for them.  He's like their Wooly.

Almost identical (except Wooly won overall and in league play at a slightly higher clip).

Also just so you don't think Iowa State has the market cornered on mediocre coach worship I present this embarrassment

To make matters worse Kirk Ferentz instead of being grateful essentially called the guy who has this a fool in his press conference yesterday.

We need like a master SLTH thread, like where does Rhoads rank compared to Camero Doc?

Rhoads is not really a SLTH. Record is too shitty?

The comparison wasn't necessarily about the two men, specifically, but more about how they were the embodiment of the majority of fans they service.

A real "everyman" for their fan base.

Yes he was when he was wearing the neck brace.  And he wasn't as nice of a guy as many people think.

Agreed.  I think the fear of clone fan years back that he was going to Chizik them and leave after being kind of successful.  I never worried about Wooly leaving for a better job even when he did pretty well.

Certainly he has turned out to be an shitty long term hire.  The SLTHY mold though is based, in part, on a coach who has reached the pinnacle of his coaching career.  The school that reaches down and grabs him is giving him a huge chance he wasn't going to get and he will therefore reward them by toiling away there until he retires or gets an assist job at a big time program.  He will also do things "the right way" and the "kids will play hard and go to class" and there will be many, many, many, MANY close losses.  There will also be blowouts but guess what?  In those blowouts, the kids "won't quit" and even in a dismal season there will be glimpses of development and also did I mention the kids won't quit?

I see, so basically Doc is the pinnacle of SLTHdom? Btw looking up Woolridge, he wasnt even good at La Tech, what a terrible hire.

wooly was hired on potential, like drafting xavier henry.

Cheesy Mustache QB might make an appearance.

It's because metalhead linked it in the pizza thread, but I like to think this is cyclone/clown-related.
