NDSU is the 8th grader who is good enough to ball with some of the 9th & 10th graders in gym class. No matter how many FCS championships you win, you are still in Jr. High.
Whoa. Alabama 10th graders still go to Jr High?
Sorry, it's game day and I am suffering from sleep deprivation. Let me develop this fictional scenario more to your liking.
An 8th grader (Jr. High) is able to beat certain kids in 9th and 10th grade (high school) who aren't very skilled at sports. In this example, NDSU is the 8th grader. Teams like KSU and Iowa State are the nonathletic 9th and 10th graders.
Further, teams like Auburn, FSU and OU are the seniors starting on varsity who laugh at the fact that you got beat by an 8th grader. If your brain is having trouble imagining what an 8th grader would be doing in a gym class with 9th and 10th graders, just imagine a small private school with a high school gym class which includes athletically gifted individuals from 8th grade. Hope this helps.
