Anybody ever been attacked by a dog?

I mean seriously attacked... by something other than a little yap-yap dog?

Went to Stillwater with uncle charlie yesterday for the OSU v UTSA game and stopped by his in-laws when we got to town. He warned me that sometimes their 120 lb german shephard was sometimes "kinda mean" to strangers.

When they tried to introduce me to this hell beast, it charged at me trying to bite my face. Then, bit my left hip before grabbing my left arm in it's jaws... One of the craziest, most surreal things I've ever experienced.

No, but I have seen it happen. It was bad enough that if somebody tells me their dog can be a little mean then I'm not going to be in the same room with it.

An Australian Shepard attacked my face when I was like 2 years old. I almost lost my eye, had to have lots of stitches on my face and I still have a scar. Grandpa (same one in the supper thread!) definitely judged the dog.

The second time wasn't quite as bad, but the Mrs. and I were at a live music club in Oakland and there was a homeless guy with his pit bull asking for money. (Like, he's one of those homeless guys that isn't mentally hill but just likes to be homeless.) When my wife said "no, sorry", the dog lunged at her and bit her leg and then lunged at me and bit mine. It seemed pretty obvious the homeless dude had trained it to do that.

I was/am a bit conflicted on "reporting it"... partially because I was a guest in their home and in the process of trying to help these people (late 60's/early 70's) not feel so bad about their dog viciously attacking me, I said I wouldn't cause them any trouble for it.

It's still all very surreal.

are you their only guest ever? what if a kid gets their face ripped off and you know you could have done something to prevent it?

Were you wearing meat underwear? Was this typical behavior for this dog? If so, why do they even let it in the room with people?

BP, by you having to report it, you aren't being the bad person, the owners are.  They know what their dog is and they aren't going to do something until someone is really hurt.

If these people live in a rural area and keep the dog in a fenced back yard, preferably tied to a tree, I would consider not reporting the dog if they were good friends. If they have the dog running around in their house, or if it's in town where the likelihood of it running across somebody is greater, then I would report the dog.

Also, did you need stitches? Did the people at least pay your medical costs?

Old boss had dog that would bite legs and stuff.  Bruises and torn jeans a couple times.  Couple years later, it took someones end digit of their middle finger all but off.  Happened in his at home office.  The guy was able to have his finger saved, but lost most of the feeling in it.  Also, the boss's workers comp insurance went up by close to 60% because of the one incident that could have been avoided if he took care of it with the earlier, more mild, bullshit bites.   He is extraordinarily lucky he didn't get sued.  Small biz.  Could have lost it.
