About Miss State though, they ALWAYS play us tough no matter how bad they might be, and that year we would have struggled against a pack of slightly angry Boy Scouts.

Makes sense, since y'all are both middle of the pack SEC-SEC-SEC teams... On the other hand, I find it really cute how all the AU fans act like they're some premier program after being a few miracle plays from being 8-5 last year and then got boat-raced in the 2H of the BCSCG against an ACC team.

Hell, one of our lower half Big12 teams (OSU) almost beat the defending champs in Dallas after graduating 45 lettermen.

I can understand how you would see it that way. Last season I was hoping for 7 wins and was shocked that we did as well as we did. And I agree that luck took us farther than it should have, but that was last year. At the same time I was picking this year to be OUR year based on player development and QB who actually knew the system going into the season.

I see a MINIMUM of 3 losses on your schedule this year, and possibly as many as five... Same ol' Auburn.

I'll grant ya that the 3-9 was a strange blip, but historically y'all are a 7-5/8-4 type team with the occasional 10+ win season.

I was surprised in researching this game earlier this summer to find out that Auburn has only back to back 10 win seasons ONCE (88-89) in the entire history of the program.

That is certainly possible; that is why they play the games. I will say though that this year's team is significantly better than last year's.

they've also won 3 conference champions in the last 10 years. kansas state has won 2 in the last 75.

And you know this, how?? You've played exactly nobody so far...

You lost three 1st rd NFL draft picks plus another key part of your OL to injury and the already sieve-like (#86 nationally LY) defense looks to be weaker up front than before.

The drop off from those 1st rounders is negligible - we have excellent players moving up to those positions. Believe it or not, the DL looks better than it did at the same point last year.

I am basing that opinion not on what we have seen on the field so far, I am basing it on other factors:
1) With the exception of Robinson, the rest of the O-Line is the same as last year, and Robinson's replacement is a stud even though he had to take a few years off to fight leukemia. (He originally signed in 2010 and is now a Sophomore)
2) MUCH improved skill levels at the receiver positions.
3) QB actually had time to learn the system. Last year he first showed up in time for Fall camp.
4) More depth at RB

As to the defense, I believe it is at about the same skill level as last year at this time.

False. Tech will ROLL pig aggy this weekend and if you really don't understand just how bad SJSU is, you truly know less than I'd thought about CFB and I didn't think you knew much.

also... Tre Mason, Dee Ford and the big OT... Perhaps one slipped to rd 2 and i'm not remembering correctly?

SJ State is much better than SFA, no question about that.  Iowa State is probably worse than Arkansas this year, but this weekend will tell us more about that.

BUT

none of that really matters.

I think ISU is better than SJS, though.

True.
I think our biggest loos on the offense was Jay Prosch who went in the 6th. He was a super stud H-Back. His replacement isn't as good of a blocker but has better hands.

Totally agree in the big scheme of things, but that's what the SEC-SEC-SEC people always fall back on... the false rhetoric spewed by E$PN about SOS.  Also agree that SJSU is better than SFA.

I think ISU would beat pig aggy in Ames, and lose to em in Fayettville.  Would be a toss-up on a neutral field IYAM, tho.  Still say Tech rolls arky this weekend...

No way.  ISU last year was complete dog poo, and this year I see indications it will be different.

I agree that Tech will beat Arky this year, but the first half will be fun to watch. Arky definitely has improved over last year but still lack the depth to go for the whole 60 mins.

Just so I am clear: the SEC is wildly overrated.  Was last year, and is this year.  The SEC (potentially) has about three very good teams: Alabama, Auburn, and Georgia, and two "goodish" teams: Texas A&M and LSU.  The rest is interchangeable mediocrity.  The idea that being in a particular conference makes one good is laughable but a good con.

I don't know of anybody who said that a particular team is good BECAUSE it is in the SEC. For instance, Kentucky and Vandy are yearly doormats although they occasionally make it into the Toilet Bowl. Miss State and Ole Miss are traditionally mid-level teams although they seem to be better than usual this year, but it is too early to tell at this point.
