Correction: They were the SECOND to the worst overall defense in FCS last year allowing 528 ypg.

It should be very easy for the Cats to cover this spread, but then again I sat down and witnessed all of our games against FCS schools since Snyder took over for Prince, so if I had to throw down money, I would go with the Cats not covering.

Keep in mind Lockett probably won't play second half

I really think everybody here is underestimating how truly awful SFA is defensively.  Its almost impossible to give up over 500 yds per game and to do it vs FCS level competition for a season is baffling.

SFA had the worst scoring defense, worst pass defense, 2nd worst total defense, and 3rd worst pass efficiency defense in FCS football (out of 122 teams) last year.

The Cats are going to score some points.

Quote
The Line: Kansas State (-37)

After this game, Stephen F. Austin will take on Incarnate Word. That’s a real school, and it also gives you an idea of what kind of matchup we’re trying to handicap.

At 5Dimes, K-State has been pegged as a 37-point favorite. For an offense that will bring back Tyler Lockett, one of the Big 12’s premier wideouts, along with quarterback Jake Waters, who showed plenty of promise while sharing reps last year, this seems somewhat low.

The Wildcats come into this game having covered seven of their last nine in 2013. Let’s take advantage of a number that seems somewhat favorable and hope that K-State makes it eight of 10.

Kansas State (-37)

Yeah, they are terrible, just awful. I can't see them making much improvement in the spring/fall. Waters could have 400 and Lockett could have 250 if Snyder plays them much in the 2nd half.

They've averaged 5 ppg in their last four games vs FBS competition.

Maybe they double it and get 10?

17 or less.

I see a 55-10 type of game.

Just messin' witcha WC08... I was more gutted than you that day because I was on the same play for a bit more than you.

Now, pertinent to this thread, here's some food for thought:  The SFA Lumberjacks have been outscored, 209-20, over their last four meetings with an FBS level opponent and were statistically the VERY WORST defense in all of FCS last year.

I'm gonna lay the points.

Cats - 56
SFA - 10

How many backup Willies do we have for pushups?  Maybe this should have been Ft. Riley day to help with that.

It's hard to see us being that dominant in our first game considering how bad we've been the last couple years against these teams.  But I'll take your word for it.

I realize SFA had a good offense last year, but they ran a quick no huddle system (87 plays per game) which only magnifies their defensive problems. Their new coach from Central Arkansas ran a similar quick offense (81 plays per game), so that won't change much, plus the transition to a new system. FCS teams simply don't have the athletes across the field to make these systems work against FBS teams, unlike NDSU last year which was just the opposite combining great experience with a tempo that contributed greatly to the upset. Plus the Cats are used to seeing some of the best no huddle offense in the country in the Big 12, so that shouldn't be a new challenge.

K-State should cover easily and if the Cats win the TO margin and/or special teams by a large margin it could get really ugly.

2 FGs

I must admit, however, that I'll be super disappointed if we stall in FG range once, let alone twice though.

If we win by 37 points then Waters to Lockett better account for at least 5 TDs
