Since we moved into our new neighborhood I've been hanging out outside with my shirt off quite a bit, just so if anyone is scoping out our house to rob it they know exactly what they're signing up for.

Maybe take up smoking as well (if you haven't already).

I don't lock my doors but I enjoy watching TV and am fanatical about using my seatbelt.  Try and wrap your heads around that.   :don'tcare:

the deadbolt knobs in our house are horizontal=unlocked vertical=locked which is the opposite of every other place i have lived and every other place in the world. this has led me to accidentally leave a door unlocked numerous times.

also, whenever I uknowningly leave the garage door open, I am punished with horrible, restless sleep. like my subconcious knows but refuses to tell me.

I don't see any downside to locking doors. it doesn't take any more effort than shutting the door and has some benefits (level of benefit determined by how shitty of a neighborhood you live in I guess).

it depends on your setup.  and maybe whether you're a little ocd about how it's stupid to lock your doors if you don't also lock the windows.  for me it's like 2 minutes to lock and another 2 minutes to unlock.  plus having to carry my house keys with me if i lock, instead of just my car key.  if it was just hitting a button on your key fob to lock/unlock everything all at once, it'd be a different story.  i always lock my car (except where i can't/don't need to).

why on earth do you have your windows open when you constantly whine about how hot it is? Keep your windows closed, man.

i open them at night, close them during the day so i don't have to pay my entire salary to pg&e to keep the house semi-livable.

job site.  keys have to stay in vehicle so it can be moved if it's parked in someone's way.

that makes more sense. omaha has about a 4 day window the entire year where the AC or heat isn't running so it's just a couple doors for us. actually, I think my new house has about 1 ground level window that opens not counting the basement so it wouldn't matter even if we left them open.

We keep all our doors locked pretty much all the time, and only go in/out through the garage. So it is just one click (of the garage door opener) to lock/unlock the house.

would add at least a minute to the open/closing them routine.  and they'd still be open at night (prime house breaking/entering time).

she's ok with the house being unlocked during the day.  not super ok with it, but puts up with it at night when i'm home because she knows i'm right about how it's better to cool the house without paying for it.  she gets really paranoid about it being open when she's there alone at night.

I'm thinking that even though sys doesn't feel as secure with an unlocked or open window, his wife might, and moving forward sys would only have to lock the doors.

Seem to always lock it up although I wonder if it really matters....if a bad guy decides he wants in to my condo or car, I feel like they've already went that far, why not break a window to get in if the door is locked.  A friend of mine subscribes to that theory that he would rather not deal with a broken window so just leaves truck unlocked.

That said, I can't count the number of times pak'd friends have crashed and leave in the middle of the night or earlier than I wake up and barely even get the door shut.  Kind of a weird feeling waking up hungover in the middle of downtown with door open.

Car, usually because of keyfob, never did when I had a car without it

House, only when gone for like 3+ days, but I did lock them when I lived in centralish topeka and it was a huge pain in the ass to remember to do.

Garage door + numberpad opener outside seems like best way to go,  to the gooches

I would love to be able to cool my apartment in the evening by opening the windows. The window unit really runs up the electricity bill. However, it's the only utility I pay, so I suppose I shouldn't complain.

ya, would be pretty sweet.  i don't pay the electric bill so i just run the ac with the windows open, unless it's like a hellish 85+
