how did he know he didn't know how to swim though? maybe he thought he would just be a stud at it from the beginning?

When Pete said he can't swim for crap I took it to mean that it had been attempted before, but I see how that may not be the case.
My prescience is fully engorged.  It throbs with righteous accuracy.  I am sated.

My 2.5 year old will be in swimming lessons starting Saturday, probably a waste of time at this age, but I think it will be fun :fatty:

I have a co-worker who won't put her kids in swimming lessons because "I'm afraid they might drown", yet she takes them (ages 12, 8, and 2) to go fishing at lakes and ponds all the time : facepalm:
I'm purple down

if you can't handle your kids at the pool, then you had too many kids

hard to believe, for sure, given the lot participating in this thread

Kinda both.  Last summer he sucked, but apparently he thought kindergarten had transformed him into a Navy Seal or something.

I'm just glad he didn't whip his junk out or piss on anything.

making sure they are comfortable in the water isn't a waste of time.  You get them comfortable going underwater at this age so they aren't afraid of putting their face in the water at 4 or 5 and end up a "I don't know how to swim" hayseed.

I've heard people say that drownings occur often when kids/people don't know to turn around from where they fell in the pool and reach for the edge.  Dunno if that's true.

All my kids went/are going through swim lessons and I'm glad when they go to pool birthday parties, etc.  They can still drown, but at least they'll reach for the edge if in trouble.
There are 10 types of people in this world.  Those who understand binary and those who don't.

When somebody tells me they can't swim, I look at them like they just told me they can't walk up stairs. Like, they say you can toss a baby in water (not that you would), and it will instinctively start trying to swim. So, that six-month old there there is starting to get it, but you can't be bothered to learn how to flail your limbs around enough to stay buoyant?

My wife was commenting on how treading water is harder when she's pregnant and I'm like pfft that extra weight you've put on is just as buoyant as the rest of youse!

The hardest thing in the entire world is floating on your back. Like every single time I went to swimming lessons as a kid they would try and get me to do it but I just can't. I am a good swimmer but I just cannot float on my back.

I remember hearing a story about a tiger attacking a fisherman several miles offshore.

I can swim ok. I'm not very fast, but I'm not going to drown or anything. I can float on my back like a champ, though. I could fall asleep doing it if I wanted to. All you have to do is lay back and not freak out when the water level covers most of your head.

I don't freak out, my legs sink like a ton of bricks.

I once swam underwater from one end of my Aunt's pool to the other without taking a breath.  (pretty big pool)

That's huge.  Probably should have posted this in the stud brag thread, though.

There has been quite a bit of talk about starting the goEMAW Olympics (mostly from Clams, he is always wanting to try new things and shake stuff up).  I will file this away when I form my own relay team.

I'll take backstroke in the medley relay, hell probably fly too.
