bar jukebox takeovers
« on: June 29, 2014, 08:43:58 AM »
what's the jukebox etiquette when at a bar? is it okay to play, like, seven songs in a row? is it unacceptable to play seven songs in a row by the same artist?

on touchtunes jukeboxes where you can pay an extra credit to "play song next," is it okay to do that for all of your songs (thus, jumping everyone ahead of you in the queue who didn't protect their selections by paying the premium?)

I have been known to play every single David Allen Coe song, in a row, on the jukebox in the Sand Bar in Lawrence.   It was not well received, however.  I probably did this once a month or so, for a period of 2-3 years.

They didn't have the "play next song" thing, but if they did I would have used it.

I used to play the longer version of In-da-gadda-ga-vida whenever I left a certain aggieville bar with a jukebox.  It was eventually removed from the jukebox.

The one at the Tropics has a pay extra feature to jump your songs to the top of the list if people have songs in front of yours. I believe @trim did this when it was non-stop Mexican on time when we were in there.

Last summer I was at Table Rock with some buddies and we decided to venture to a locals bar in Branson one night. Rowdy Beaver or something? Anyway, the drunkest guy in our group put in $10 and put all toward "What's up pussycat." The first time people were sort of enjoying it to an extent. Halfway through the second time people began to get a little confused (Branson people). The third led to some angry (and still confused) looks. By the fourth we were on the cusp of a full on brawl and the cord to the jukebox had been pulled.
Please don't ban me, Mr. Dave.

At the Peanut (OP) this spring after we beat KU I played:

Start Wearing Purple
Purple Rain
We are the Champions
that Na na na na hey hey hey goodbye song

I'd guess 80% of the KU fans left their cards at the bar that night.

Hmmmm, that is literally the story I posted a youtube link to. Sure you didn't steal it from John Mulaney?

Didn't click your link and didn't know it existed. Perhaps the friend who played the trick did but not me.

Is it true that there's no more juke at Mae's? Used to play Born to Run and Darkness albums in succession on Sunday mornings until the bartender finally started bringing in his own stuff to play.

Rake and I should be the main characters in one of those 80s body switch movies.  Hilarity ensues.
