Pitcher:
You against the other team, literally on an island with no help. You are the sole reason the batter is in the box and he is 100% focused on you, so is the crowd, so are your teammates, so is the homeplate umpire, also the other team. No other sport has this kind of pressure/intensity on a single person.
Yeah go ahead and say football and the QB. Welp direct snap to the RB, does and can happen. Baseball the pitcher is the primary person, without him, there would be no game because nobody would deliver the ball.
Does he like the pressure, of course he does, he is a gamer. He understands this game is on him, he is the one that gets a record, Wins and Loses. Does he care, no, he goes out there everyday and competes his rough ridin' heart out.
So the SS makes a game losing error, who gets the L, the pitcher, there is not a more individualistic team sport than baseball.
If you don't understand/appreciate it, I feel sorry for you, because this is the greatest sport in the world.
