The draft lottery is designed to discourage tanking. The team with the worst record has only won 3 times (90 Nets, 03 Cavs, 04 Magic). IMO it does more harm than good because it alienates your fanbase.
Not gonna need the number 1 pick to get foster though. That's why this really doesn't make sense.
:D

I feel bad for whoever the Knicks end up with. They have become the Browns of the NBA.

Meh, yeah but Phil Jackson will turn things around.

it's pretty crazy, the amount of talent in the NBA right now

i like to contrast it to the early 90's but get really lost doing it
there was better balance East v West but yeah, it is remarkable.

Warriors fans were cheering for tanking in 2012, because they got an extra draft pick if they finished with the 7th worst record or worse:

all the weird trade protections encourage too much tanking imo

Trade protections have to do with draft order and not how teams finish in the standings. Fortunately for GS no one behind them in the standings jumped into the top 3 during the lottery.

Protections are necessary when dealing future picks. If a GM doesn't include one it's a fireable move.

The team that is really sweating things out this year is the Lakers. They are currently the 4th worst team and have a top 5 protected pick. If a couple of ping pong balls bounce the wrong way and they land in the 6th spot their pick goes to Philly. A big LOL at the Steve Nash trade if that happens...

wouldn't you say that incentivizes LA's tanking?

Sure, but they're going to lose 60+ games and there is a >50% chance of them NOT having a 1st round pick this year.

It's like a goodwill of former released Miami Heat players. Quite the sentimental story for the trash city of Cleveland.

Steph Curry broke his own NBA record last night with his 276th 3FG of the season. He has 3 of the top 5 3FGM seasons.

But before all of the Dubs fans get too excited, I'd be hoping that San Antonio stays in the 6 seed in the West. It would be pretty embarrassing to win 67 or 68 games and not even make it to the WCF. If the Spurs stay at 6 they'll at least have to go through Houston and Memphis before getting to Golden State.

And sorry, Winters, but the Heat suck. Getting outscored 57-27 in the 2nd half last night is one of the lamest things I've seen this season. Woof.  :'bye cruel world:

The Dubs got a little lucky last night. Not only are they avoiding the Spurs until the WCF, but now they get the Pels instead of OKC in the first round. The Thunder probably wouldn't have won the series, but Westbrook would've made it much more difficult.

Davis creates a worse match-up problem than Westrbrook would have. Would have rather seen OKC.

Not sure I agree, but it's a moot point because GS will win this series in 4 or 5 games. Mostly I'm just sad that fans will be deprived of watching Curry and Westbrook combine for 100 points in a game.
