Robben should probably be in the conversation. Then obviously Mueller or Schweinsteiger (really a lot of Germans could have arguments).

Idk how typical it is for a player who didn't play in the final to get the Golden Ball though.

I heard Bill Simmons 4 years ago suggest that they make this a once every 3 year event. Is there a reason they shouldn't? No. Everyone loves the WC these days, and its not like once every 3 years would make it less special. Every 12 years you'd be getting an extra WC. Why is no one doing this?

So what? Sounds like a fun summer. Just have the WC in June and Olympics in August in that random year. Would be awesome.

Or soccer needs some big event in the 2nd year between WCs. Then move the WC up a year so we have a 4 year run of WC, Summer Olympics, other big soccer event, Winter Olympics

Also for soccer specifically odd years are for your regional tournament. UEFA specifically would never allow the Euros to be skipped over.

Soccer has big events going on all the time. Odd years you have your regional tournament, year before the World Cup you have the confederations cup, you have WCQ going on 3 years out leading up to the Cup.

Or FIFA could just announce "Hey we're doing the WC every 3 years now" and everyone else (UEFA, Olympics, etc etc) would just have to deal with it. They'd all adjust and everything would be fine and better.
