I want to be able to walk into rooms and have lights turn on/ turn off when I leave. I also want to be able to talk to my house. "Hey house, its a tad bit cold in here." House turns down AC. Maybe even apologizes.

There is a tstat that does verbal commands.  I believe its a honeywell and runs about twofitty at home depot, iirc.

Also, you could get motion sensor light switches in the nineties,  so they are at home depot too.

roku for sure (you can also rent movies on amazon and watch them on roku)

roku 3 it is.  I will probably eventually upgrade to the next gen apple tv assuming amazon instant gets integrated.

i've got both an apple tv and a roku - iirc the roku has amazon streaming and the apple tv doesn't
