Your best bet in the effort to look cool is to not wear a pin, chain, tie bar or chain.  When you walk to your car, who cares if your tie blows around.  My last job required me to wear a tie every fracking day and I never wore a device to keep it in place.  So in summation, if you want to look cool, which it sounds like you do, just go without.

there's actually a younger dude at the office that wears these.

So in summation, if you want to look cool, which it sounds like you do, just go without.

Actually, just the opposite. Looking to keep my tie in place :dunno:

Really surprised by the anti-tie fastener sentiment around here. Hate when it flies around when I'm walking to a business lunch in downtown and stuff. I guess you all just drive to work, park, go in, etc.

in these instances, i usually throw my tie over my shoulder just like most other people who know how to wear ties

All I know is that I need a tie fastener any time I'm a silhouette and I sit down in an easy chair to enjoy a blasted Maxell cassette tape.

What if the wind is swirling? Do you tuck between shirt buttons?

When you're as important as I am, you get to park in the parking garage under your building and don't even have to be outside at all.  You'll get to that point some day and then the tie tack question is completely irrelevant.

You never walk outside? Are there glass pedestrian tubes in your super elite future city (very gently air-conditioned so as to avoid blowing one's tie about, I assume)?

Plus, I like walking outside. Guess I'm just gonna go with the devil-may-care clams shoulder flip (or the _fan tee, which may work as long as I never get too close too anyone and keep the lights dim in my office).

I used to have a small clip that I used to clip the back of my tie to my shirt.  Held everything in place.  No tie tack visible.  Clip was low profile.  Wasn't made for this use, but worked great.  Not sure what it was made for.  I would clip my tie tag to the shirt.

There, I have shared all my tie fastening secrets.

I tie my ties wicked short so as to not have to throw it over my shoulder during a pee.

"Ties wicked short?"  Arent they supposed to reach  the top of your belt?  Where is your penis located?  Is your penis erect during this piss?  How long is your torso?  I have so many questions about this...

This has potential. Thanks for not being a total waste (like Mr "throw it over your shoulder" and Mr "I'm important and park underground").

Could just put the tail of the tie through the little label thing  on the back of the tie and then put the pin through both.  No visible hole and your tie still stays in place.  :driving:  <--- No tie flapping in the wind.

As long as it is a flat pin, this would essentially be the same thing I used to do with my clip.  If it was raised, you would have a weird area on you where your tie stuck out for some unseen reason.

Caution.

What, did you twist it getting out of your car in the darkness of your elite parking cave?

What about ties that come pre-attached to shirts they match?  :dunno:

You gotta be on your toes in the elite parking cave.  You never know when an Audi, BMW, Lexus or whatnot will come around the corner and getcha.  I do drive the crappiest car in the cave, if that matters.

BTW,  basketball was the culprit of my Terrible Triad knee tear.
