Pin, clips, and chains are for 50 year olds and dumbasses.

I love wearing ties and look damn good doing so.  That said- I never, ever wear stupid gimic ties.  No powercats, no santas, no damn shamrocks.  Those ties are for overweight dudes that have given up on life and probably wear short sleeves and clip-ons anyway.

Personally, I look for a nice, tightly braided bolero with a flash of silver and turquoise.

Was at a conference in Vegas a couple weeks ago and one of the vendors was this Kwame Something from the apprentice. He has his own tie line that Nordstroms and Macy's just started carrying. They were selling them for $25(normal retail $75) so I stocked up.

I like a simple, not flashy pin.  Keeps the tie from flopping around.  :dunno:

Get the chain. Doesn't leave marks/holes on what is usually an expensive tie.

Just use the same hole, it will be covered by the pin.

are you having a lets stand around outside and see who's tie stays put competition?  when i go outside I expect my tie to move around, when I drive around in my car, i expect my tie to move around, when i'm in a setting where it matters, my tie is going to hang like it is supposed to.

Yeah, walking around in full freaking suit during the summer is one way to keep your tie in place.  So is a freaking tie pin.  And I guess its cool to have your tie flying around.  Maybe I'll take out my shoe laces too and just "expect" my shoes to flop around too.  :bunchadumbassesaroundhere:

Hmmm. Lots of helpful banter so far (some more than others). Not wearing a tie isn't an option. And it's not like I'm doing pushups or windsurfing at work. But why should I "expect my tie to move around" if I can pin it in place with something classy? (<--Notice the "if" )

Not a huge fan of pins. I can put it in the same place each time, but that means I always have to wear a pin with that tie. And I'm not comfortable with that level of commitment. Very iffy about chains, but primarily because the only ones I see are those ugly gold ones that the aforementioned old fat guys use. Leaning towards a clip at this point, but it feels a little "trendy", like aviators and skinny jeans.

Maybe a "tie bar"? Feels more minimalist and comfortable.
