This is a thread for people like me who know jack squat about something to ask the many experts on gE for technology advice.

I'm looking to buy an Ipad for my girlfriend as a graduate school graduation present.  I have found a deal where I can get an Ipad 4 16 gb for $349.  I think the Ipad air is going to be a lot better as an option, but the 16gb IPad air is around 499 at its cheapest. Is it worth it to pay $150 more for the air? Or is the IPad 4 pretty servicable?

thanks! Being that there is no Apple store in MHK is this something that you can find a good deal with online? Or should I do some traveling?

edit: the only apple store in KS is Leawood. The IPad airs online are $419 refurbished

Was discussing this with a friend and they tried convincing me that Ipads weren't the best option for a tablet.  Any thoughts? Kindle fire was their favorite option.

I'm getting help from friends and family to pay for it.  So it won't be a large money out of pocket thing.  Also wouldn't mind her having something nice to remind her of me while she waits out there for me to make the move

in that case I agree with SD and puni, I got a new IPad Air about a month ago and it was def worth the money

Thank you very much for your input BT.  I like asking people for their opinions on technology purchases, but far too often if I ask too many people I start getting confused about my choice.

sure, if you are an android person that sounds great. or a nexus. but there is no reason anyone should ever get a kindle fire ever. ever. (and I own and love a kindle paperwhite).
