By all-time, I mean since 1993, our first bowl year of the Snyder/Prince/Snyder era.

I put this group at 2nd to last, a spot ahead of the Keithen Valentine led Ron Prince team.  We've had some really great running backs over the years, so being 2nd to last isn't quite as bad as it sounds.  These guys are way better than Keithen Valentine.

But, they'll cost us.  I am revising my prediction down a game simply because of the running backs....UNLESS our offense changes quite a bit and we really spread it out and throw more than we ever have under Snyder, but I don't even know if that would help or be worse, just different and unpredictable.

To sum up, I think we might just be complete dog crap running the ball this year.  GO CATS!

How many true freshman runningbacks has Snyder started?

I think the only running backs at K-State that really made a difference were Sproles and Thomas.  Everyone else was more or less a product of their O-Line.

I need to check with 'clams but Judah Jones looks like he might be an all-burner team candidate.

I liked Keithen Valentine, and would definitely be happy with him this year

I agree with this, and I think Warmack will be the third.

Strongly disagree.  Scobey and Cartwright were easily the best one-two punch we ever had in the backfield.

Cartwright didn't do crap as a RB

Scobey is underrated.  He was close to Thomas levels of awesome for shitty teams.

JJ Smith was rough ridin' awesome.  Frank Murphy was an NFL running back.   We've had LOADS of really good running backs.

Goolsby was a fantastic runner as well, very Okoye like.  Joe Hall was a freakish athlete at 280+ pounds with juke moves.

Cartwright was an amazing runner. particularly on those little underneath FB dives.  I don't understand how you can't see that, unless you literally did not witness him running.

The 1-2 punch of Hickson and Lawrence was maybe the best attack in the conference at the time.

Christ people, we have had TONS of complete studs at running back.

Yes, Cartwright was a great runner but his 570 career rushing yards didn't necessarily make a difference.

Yes, Cartwright was a great runner but his 570 career rushing yards didn't necessarily make a difference.

It made a huge difference, because many of those yards came in big bursts.  I haven't looked up his numbers, but I remember him having a very high yardage per carry.   I mean, he was our second or third option at the time and he was an NFL talent.

My point here is that we have had some really great players run the ball at K-State over the years, AND I do not think that this current group is close to that standard at all.

If Leverette can take care of his blocking responsibilities, then I think we will all be pleasantly surprised with a 1-2 punch of Leverett and Warmack. That's a big "if" though, we could very well suck ass if Charles Jones and DMac take all the carries this year. Really need our talented studs to figure out their assignments (not just at running back).

A part of me is still holding out hope that Robinson will live up to his 4 stars but the fact that he can't seem to stay healthy isn't good.

I think Leverett is also more than capable to be the man. I think he was the best back yesterday. However, like Dlew said, the offensive line is going to have to be really good for our running game to have a good year.

Considering Bill didn't open up the playbook yesterday is a bit of a relief knowing we probably still have a few aces up our sleeves.  The backs weren't impressive but they also didn't run a lot of fancy plays.  What I liked seeing was that they ran hard, they had good ball protection, and they were patient waiting for plays to develop.  Their blocking could use a little work as well as finding lanes and knowing/where/how to cut.  Waters has improved his running skills as well, and overall I felt like he has improved his decision-making skills.  He was patient in the pocket and allowed his receivers to get open, and when it wasn't there he knew when and where to run and ran effectively.  He had to make some tough throws and was fighting the wind all day.  All the little things that the backs and QBs are getting critiqued on right now are very minor and will improve as they move on to summer workouts.  The line will improve too.  They have all summer to get it down.

i expect to see a lot of 4wr sets with gronk as the lone back. we are going to stink at running the ball unless we are so BA at passing that things open up for a fast guy like robs/warmack.
