I'm in shock, never seen the Pads do anything like this. They got everything they needed and more to make a run in the playoffs. Nando will be back in 2 weeks, wholly crap!   :excited:

pretty meh all around. I'm going to tell myself its b/c (aside from the Pads going crazy) the rest of the NL contenders didn't really do a whole lot. Oh well.

I'm ok with it.  Would I have loved a solid LH RP? Yes, but it seems like no one got one

Cruz is so fun to watch. Just an insane talent. Baseball is a fun sport right now because it feels like a TON of these guys are generational players but they are coming rapid fire and keep one upping each other.

chongs how you feelin about us using Diaz to get 6 outs? In general i'm okay with it but i'm not sure how much i like it on game 1 of a 5 game series against the 2nd place team. Maybe Buck is counting on our bats to be lit today. I think getting game 1 was definitely important for setting the tone...but im worried this might have been a bit short sighted.

I like it. Now the pressure is a lot lower for the rest of the series and the players can play freely. The Mets can't leave the series in second place anymore.

Of course it also shows we need a solid 7th inning guy.

yeah, Cookie was humming right along and i thought he would easily go 7 and all it took was one bad inning and then he ends up going the same distance as the braves starter. We definitely need a 7th inning guy, I think Tylor will fill that role nicely when he's healthy.

The most glaring thing for me last night...i'm now thinking that if we would have got Contreras i would very confidently say we are cruising to the NLCS. Its frustrating b/c from all accounts it sounds like the cubs were really just playing themselves by not dealing him. Like, we missed out on what could have been a crucial piece because the cubs were feeling recalcitrant. I think like 2 or 3 of McCann's plate appearances were situations where a base hit or even a productive out could have done some damage. I'm not sure Nido would have fared much better. Nido takes such a long swing, most of the time when he gets a hit i don't really think "nice at-bat Nido" i think "lucky us that his bat just happened to collide with the ball".  Don't get me wrong Nido is a very good defensive catcher and i'm not sure i've seen any catcher throw out as many guys at 2nd from their knees as he does. But Contreras loves to sling it around and back pick, i don't think Nido's defense is appreciably better than Contreras but Contreras's bat is head and shoulders above McCann and Nido combined, imho.

It would have been great to get Contreras, but the Cubs were playing games.  I feel more confident with Nido than McCann, Nido can at least bunt and he's strangely better than expected with RISP.

But Alvarez is the answer eventually.

yeah i was hearing rumblings they might call up Alvarez after the trade deadline but i think they were intentionally floating that rumor out there to make the cubs think we had other options. Good point on Nido's ability to put down a bunt. He is a pretty reliable sac bunter. I know he's got good numbers w/ RISP but I've felt like that is fools gold all season, and i don't know why. Maybe its because he strikes out so much, or maybe its because i can only think of like 3 at-bats where he looked like he actually had a clue where the ball was going. Every other time its like he just takes the exact same uppercut swing and the pitcher just happens to throw it in his swing plane.

I'm really loving the pick up of Vogelbach like he is just so good at the plate. Naquin availed himself nicely in his home opener as well. These dudes feel like they will have the same effect as Uribe and Kelly Johnson. I think Contreras would have been our Cespedes.

What a fun day of baseball. Other than having to use Diaz in game 1 I don’t think it could have gone much better. So fun

BUCKET YES!

A few weeks back I saw a tweet with this photo and a caption about how MLB players have to be in peak physical shape. That or it was about these guys looking like they belong in a slow pitch softball league. The photo features Rowdy Tellez and Daniel Vogelbach, who is now with the Mets.

in awe at the size of these lads. absolute U N I T S.

Also apparently Vogelbach is an incredibly popular guy in every clubhouse. He goes and makes friends with pretty much everybody and is v funny. Vogelbach hit his first HR as a Met and then quickly hit another, and said "I hit my homeruns in bunches...just like i get my donuts"

so adorable and likeable.

Like, serious question, how many pivotal battles throughout history could have had a different outcome if the losing side’s drummer and bugle player knew that bop? Really makes you think
