Former 2014 Royals update....

Shields is 7-0. He's pitched pretty decent. ERA is 3.79. He has allowed 15 HRs in 13 starts. He is getting good run support. SD giving him 6.0 runs per start

Butler is only hitting .205 with a SLUG of .263 since Apr 24

Aoki is hitting an MLB best .415 on the road.  Hitting .333 overall

Det and Clev play 6 gms in the next 2 weeks. Tigers have been bad lately, but I still am not sure if Clev is actually a bigger threat or not.   I guess them each winning 3 may be the best.  That thought could change here 10 days from now

Sad to see Billy at such a low level. Not terribly surprised by BGJ's numbers. Nori is obviously quite comfortable in the NL.

moore deserves a lot of credit for letting butler walk and replacing him with morales.  but he's not getting the criticism he deserves for paying twice as much for super shitty alex rios as he would have had to pay adorable badass superstud nori aoki to return.

Interesting post. I guess we'll all think about it.

I liked Aoki, but I Dont fault Dayton for looking for a bat that had more power.  Even if he is a solid RF, 11 mill was a few mill too high for Rios, but they clearly wanted him and overpaid.

I'm not gonna judge Rios totally off of these past 2 weeks, just as I'm not judging his good 1st 7 games and say he was going to be a great player.

Right now, he is struggling and not hitting well. He had to be better not only to somewhat justify his contract, but to justify him being our RF

Fwiw....Aoki was hitting in the .250s with no power in a good portion of June and July, and a lot of peeps weren't loving him or loving him hitting leadoff putting up those numbers.

a leadoff hitter is exactly what the royals most need (offensively).

Shields is doing what Shields does, go deep into games, even if he gives up 4 or 5 runs, and gives his team a chance to win. He rarely has games that are truly awful. He's averaging 6.15 innings per start, and last year was at 6.67 (about 1/3 of an inning difference). More Ks and HRs this year like Posse said. The more homers thing is weird, because I thought San Diego was not a HR friendly park.

Yes we really do.  I'm OK that Eski isn't gonna have a .350 on base, but he can't hit below .275 either. I'd like to see steal more too. He was successful in 53 of 59 tries last 2 years.
