I don't think there is a hard and fast rule other than they try to avoid it as far as non-con opponents go. Potential conference opponents they try to avoid until Sweet 16

We were set up to meet them in the second round 3x our last 5 NCAA tournaments with the seeds potentially working to do it again this year.
