5, 10, 15 years down the road, no one remembers if you lost first round or second round, but they certainly will know you made the NCAA's that year. No one cares about winning some exhibition NIT dumpster fire.

I think the women won that one WNIT like 5-6 years ago and the school banned them from playing after that. Atleast, I think that's what happened, cause I haven't heard about them since.

The people who would rather win the NIT have the same mentality as those who would rather beat some crappy team in a worthless bowl game than lose to a good team in the Cotton Bowl.

no, not the same

So 15 years down the road, you're gonna take huge offense to the difference between losing to LaSalle first round or losing to 'Cuse 2nd round? Yeah okay, sure.

I won't give a crap 15 years down the road. Right now I'm talking about this season and the immediate future. It would be infinitely better for this team to go win the NIT this year rather than lose in the opening round of the NCAA. If you think otherwise you're a rough ridin' idiot.

There is no correlation that winning the NIT leads to future success for a program.

NCAA appearances are better than the NIT under any circumstance, regardless of success/failure in either tournament. IMHO.

If we win the NIT, it's going to be the most K-STATEO thing in the entire world. Our athletic department would pretend we just won the NCAA tournament. They would make it seem like a bigger deal than winning the Big 12 last year. That's a pretty good reason to never want to win the NIT.

It might be worth going to the NIT just to see our athletic department call us national champs. :D

Also, can you guys imagine ERII the day that the bracket is announced. Going into the final bracket,
"Please don't say K-State, please don't say K-State, please don't say K-State."
"And number 10, out of Manhattan, KS, THE KANSAS STATE WILDCATS!!"
"ARE YOU EFFING KIDDING ME!! WE NEVER CATCH ANY BREAKS!""

Here are the past 20 years NIT titles (since no one really remembers). Occasionally programs build off a good showing (Wichita State, Iowa recently), but the majority of teams did nothing of significance after their NIT run.

Year   Champion   Runner-up   MVP
2013   Baylor   Iowa
2012   Stanford   Minnesota
2011   Wichita State   Alabama
2010   Dayton   North Carolina
2009   Penn State   Baylor
2008   Ohio State   Massachusetts
2007   West Virginia   Clemson
2006   South Carolina   Michigan
2005   South Carolina   Saint Joseph's
2004   Michigan   Rutgers
2003   St. John's  Georgetown
2002   Memphis   South Carolina
2001   Tulsa   Alabama
2000   Wake Forest   Notre Dame
1999   California   Clemson
1998   Minnesota   Penn State
1997   Michigan   Florida State
1996   Nebraska   Saint Joseph's
1995   Virginia Tech   Marquette
1994   Villanova   Vanderbilt

All that said, if this team falls to the NIT, I will follow it closely.

i'm just, baffled by what is happening here.

Baylor won it last year (had to google, had no rough ridin' clue) and it's not really doing anything for them this year. there, one example, you're wrong.

Yea, I will. I will never forget what our sleezeball athletic department did to Jamar.

The only reason I remember that Baylor won it last year is because they did exactly what Toolfan60 is describing above and it was a lulzfest. DO NOT WANT.

Why wouldn't you want to continue building a streak of consecutive NCAA appearances?
