Too many missed easy layups/bunny shots
« on: January 21, 2014, 08:16:17 PM »
Foster missed a driving layup.  Thomas missed a fast break layup.  Gip played great but even he had 2 easy 3 foot shots with no one contesting the shot.     When u shoot 25% from 3pt and 57% from FT line.... cant afford to miss that many shots at the rim that are not really contested (Im not even counting the shots we had from inside 5 feet that were contested, because some of those you are gonna miss)

also foster on bench for last 5 minutes of game = genius

Foster did not play well.  Im not saying that I wouldn't have minded to see him out there, but Will had a nice assist to Gip and a 2pt jumper in the last 5 minutes.  Westicles forced a bad pass, got the TO.  He only made 1 of 2 FTs .... but I don't think having Will or Westicles in the game and not Foster cost us the game.

you've got to have your best players on the floor in crunch time, really no excusing the alternative

Yep, even if your best player is playing poorly, they're your best player for a reason. There's always a chance that they will get it going late, unless they're on the bench  :frown:

Momentum really swung after JT missed that fast break layup.  Such a pretty steal, just too bad he couldn't finish.

Too that point, UT only had 13 pts in 18 2nd half poss (6-20 FG and only 30%eFG).

To compound the missed layup, we also fouled on the rebound and UT got 2 FTs on the other end.  That started a run that saw them get 18 pts in their final 13 possession and hit 5-8 FGs

I think every fan of every team thinks their team misses an unusually high number of close shots.

Southwell clanking both free throws to throw away a chance to tie was so frustrating....and they STILL tied the game with 7 seconds left. Remarkable.

This is true.

Their 80% FT shooter also missed 2 FTs to allow us to tie it.

They made 1 more 2pt shot, we made 1 more 3pt shot, and they made 4 more FTs. Just a ridiculously close game.

This is probably true.  We had some missed shots inside of 5 feet we missed but they were at least  contested shots.  Those are disappointing, but you kinda have to live with them most of the time.    Also, if you miss an easy shot, but then get a tip in or 2nd shot that you make, you tend to forget about the missed bunny.

Marcus and Jevon probably wont miss those type of layups very often.  I said Gip had 2 shots he really wished he could have back and 1 of those was an easy shot he probably makes 90+ percent of the time.    You become more aware of these when the game is tied with under 5 seconds and you lose ( you lose by 8-9 pts, these easy missed don't tend to sting so much)

I don't think about single easy misses early in the game or even through most of the second half affecting the outcome of the game. The one that got me last night was the Gip miss at the 4 min mark. I thought, "man, this game has been so close, that one might be the difference."

Jevon's miss was probably the second biggest play of the game. We had a chance to go up 5, but instead were only up 1 after the FTs. To add on to PP's numbers, UT hadn't scored in 4:32 before that play.

It always sucks to dissect a game that's decided by one play. I'm sure there were several other opportunities in the 1st half that could have changed the outcome too.

Thomas's miss was bad, but Johnson's foul following it was awful.

DJamer has been completely awful the past two games.

Has there been a Goat designation for this season or is that tagged to Spradling until he retires?

If not, I hereby nominate DJamer. I'm starting to root for a Bruceing.

Lack of shooting was a bigger problem then layups. Bad shooting caused our offense to many struggles.
