I'm listening to Hall & Oates right now
"She's Gone" was inspired by a Daryl Hall dream where he fell madly in love with you, only to have you break his heart. While conveying the dream to longtime collaborator John Oates, he was too shy to mention that it was about a man so he lied about the gender. Regardless and despite the song being penned before your birth, he still thinks of you every time he sings the song. Each time he sings it with more conviction in hopes that this will help to keep the memory of that dream from fading. While he knows losing you hurt immensely, never having had you would be a pain too strong for words.
