Possible severe or long-term problems from a splinter?
« on: January 05, 2014, 03:24:43 PM »
A few weeks ago, I was shoveling snow barehanded with an old shovel with a wooden handle. I ended up getting a few splinters. I removed most of them, but I later discovered there was one more in my finger. I neglected it and now it hurts a bit when I press in the spot. But I'm afraid it's pretty deep into the finger now.  :ohno:

What's the diagnosis, doc?

Ok, here's what you gotta do:
Ingredients: one(1) large bowl hot water,
one(1) large bowl full of lemon juice
                   one(1) large bowl ice water
1: soak your hand in hot water for 10 minutes. Make the water as hot as you can stand.

2: immediately move hand from hot water to lemon juice. Soak 5 minutes

3: finally, move hand from lemon juice to ice water. Soak until your vagina disappears.

Winz,

I have a piece of pencil lead still in the side of my pinky finger from like third grade.  You can still see it!  As far as I know, it is not killing me.

I hate them.  the only thing worse is when you get a teeny tiny piece of glass in your foot.

gangrene..  :runaway:
Fifteen minutes later, when the Kansas locker room opened its doors to the media, the Jayhawks were still crying. Literally, bawling. All of them. I've never seen anything like it, and I've seen devastated college locker rooms -- after losses in the Final Four, the national championship game -- ever

I've heard good things about baking soda:

http://www.wikihow.com/Remove-a-Splinter-with-Baking-Soda

One thing about a wood splinter, thats interesting... if you can't get it out, your immune system will actually try to break down and disintegrate the foreign object... so eventually it will just disappear.  T&Ps for those with graphite in their skin, since it seems you can't break it down.

I wouldn't worry about that, Winters.
