Bunny Ears Thread (TV antenna)
« on: January 01, 2014, 12:11:40 PM »
All right, here's the deal. I want to get rid of cox cable because it's way too expensive and sucks balls/taints. I mean there is nothing ever on TV worth watching that I can't get with netflix or hulu or something much cheaper.

But. . .

I want to be able to pick up the local stations just for sports games and stuff. My issue is that the bunny ears that I bought don't hardly pick up crap. Has anyone else tried this? I live in MHK. Maybe there is just super poor signal here   :dunno:

You live a long ways from ABC/CBS/NBC/FOX affiliates.  It doesn't take a genius to figure that out.  Also, have fun not watching cats games, loser.

the only thing i was able to pick up was a really bad quality fox station that's rebroadcast from ogden.  when i was in topeka and kc, it was really great, and the OTA quality was better than what the cable company gives you.

i just have an indoor antenna tho, an external may be able to get the major networks.... but i doubt it.

I had a pretty good outdoor antennae in Manhattan the last few years and I got every major network pretty decent. Fox was by far the worst (mainly because it was SD and not HD), but still watchable. We lived pretty high up on a hill which I think makes a difference.

Cable is worth it if you like to watch sports.

I cut the cable cord a couple years ago, and I have to agree with this. But I'm cool with going to bars to watch anything.

Yeah, outdoor antenna ftw. Some metro areas you would be okay with an attic antenna (inside), but most would be better with a roof/chimney mounted multi-directional antenna. If you live in the boonies, then multiple directional antennas. Trees or tall buildings near you make a big difference in signal quality. I would think a roof/chimney mount in Manhattan would do great (you can test this by changing the height of the antenna on the search page).

check out your reception here: http://www.antennaweb.org/Address.aspx

and then pick the appropriate type of antenna here: http://www.antennaweb.org/Info/AntennaInfo.aspx

I ended up buying this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001DFZ5HO/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B001DFZ5HO&linkCode=as2&tag=ibank4reviews-20
