this is a serious question.  what makes the training worth it?  do you enjoy the training, the race, the finish, just being able to finish?  i did enough running for my whole life during sports, and hated ever second of it.  So i dont understand how it is even remotely enjoyable
I enjoy the chance to clear my mind when I run.  Once I get in the flow of the run I just let my mind sort out all the crap, and then I feel great physically and mentally.  I also like that because no one has any expectations on me personally, so I have training for and finishing a run fulfilling for myself.

Yeah I enjoy running because you can really notice improvement.  It's very satisfying to notice that you're not even really tired yet at a certain distance that made you keel over from exhaustion a couple of months prior.

Exactly.  On days that I don't really want to run, once I get the first mile or so out of the way I can go for a long time. It's just getting over that hurdle to get started.

Only reason I like the organized races is the group aspect of people getting together for a charity, etc.

Outside of a race, I like running as it's easy to go out and run wherever, whenever...easy way to exercise.  Also like to use it to check out the city or tour another city.  Also it's time to yourself to just think, listen to music, whatever....

Other reasons for me:

It makes me feel physically healthier and stronger.

Doing a long race is a challenge and gratifying once you've done it. Like climbing a mountain or something.

My knees are really sore, and I typically don't get too sore.  I think I probably over did it.  I decided that I'd keep up with a couple people half my age.  Seemed like a good idea at the time.

I've been down that road. Never again. Congrats, though, on a great run.

It was a race. There's no such thing as over doing it.

Way to kick ass. How many 12 year old kids passed you?

Or does that just happen to me?

I do all these runs and never even consider that they're technically races :frown:
