I was just asking my dad how they were good way back then. He said that they could have players who were not qualified to attend college play for their team. Partially qualified for college or something. He said that they had entire rosters full of guys who could only go there because they would let them in anyway. Maybe they could go back to doing that?
It's the whole partial qualifier issue. Before the Big 12, Nebraska had multiple players who were not qualified to attend college. Big 8 was run half by OU and half by Nebraska, and let them have their way.
Once Texas joined, they demanded that partial qualifiers be removed. Thus, Texas brought up Prop 48 (I believe, can't remember the real name), and it was passed 11-1. Texas made a point to poke at Nebraska about Prop 48. I think that's what planted the seed of the Nebraska hatred for Texas/
Snyder commented: "those were some awful good players that Nebraska used to be able to get."
