Biggest thing for me I like about current location is proximity to family and friends. Can I transplant basically my entire world to this new locale?

no

That's not fair at all. I'm not playing.

wouldn't move.

Is it hard for a Law Enforcement Officer to switch precincts?

my wife is in law enforcement too so the odds of us both ending up with the same job in a different precinct are slim to none. hers is a specialty area.

Some place warm with a beach.  Money/job offer is the reason I haven't moved.

When I got out of college, I didn't really know what I wanted to do but I knew where I wanted to live.  I have made job/life decisions based on getting to an awesome beach someday.  Can't have a bad day that ends with a beer on a beach.

I think this could get very boring after six months or so.

I think this is a great plan for someone who isn't sure what they'd like to do with their lives.

However

I think I could be very happy in about any locale if I loved my job.

I sometimes feel like i would be happiest in a modern nomad type of life.  I feel like where I am now could facilitate that.

Touch one. I think I'd move to Charlotte, NC. Two hours to the mountains. Three hours to the beach. Nice weather.

If I could have a mountain location (I love trail running and hiking) that was close to the beach, I'd take. Can't think of a good location though.

I'm in this situation right now.  I work from home and can work from anywhere.  My wife stays home with our son.

Just sold our house in Manhattan because I've lived here my whole life and wanted to try a bigger city and see what else is out there.

I've spent over a year looking everywhere. I started internationally and found some amazing places, but being an entrepreneur makes it tough because without a job offer from another country, it's almost impossible to get in.  Top of the list was Victoria or Vancouver Canada, mostly because places like Australia and Switzerland make it extremely difficult to travel back.

America it is!

I've studied most of the thriving cities around the country and I've traveled around specifically to look at houses, amenities, etc.  I don't even want to think about how many hours I've spent during this process.

You know what I ended up with? Kansas City

I never thought I'd choose KC.  I didn't even include it in my initial searches.  Having the opportunity to move anywhere seems amazing and I really wanted to take advantage of it.  The reality I found is that there is no perfect place (at least for our situation).  We do have a lot of family in KS, and I love attending K-State events, but I didn't want that to be my reason for staying.  I'm still not sure how much those factored in.

I just read an article explaining that people are relocating less because the differences between major cities is becoming less and less.  I found that to be largely true.  Not to mention the fact that even though air travel is a pain, it's still relatively cheap and quick, especially in the middle of the country.  The tech industry in KC is doing well which is important to me, and good schools are easy to find in JoCo.  If I was single and wasn't starting a family, things may have been different.

Anyways, hope someone finds that interesting.  I really thought I'd want to move out of state if given the opportunity.  I'm still keeping Canada on my radar in case they open up their immigration policies, but I'm not holding out hope that it happens in the near future.

say you could move yourself/your household anywhere right now. financially you are the same. you (and your spouse if applicable) have the same job at the same company. but geographically it's different. where would it be? is the job you have now the only thing stopping you from moving there now?

My wife and I get to decide this exact thing by Spring 2016.   :sdeek:

I don't know my answer yet. This is hard.

Job will be the same, for me, but an increase from nearly nothing to $60-$80K for her, or so, I take it that it varies quite a bit in her new field.

I suppose I just want a reasonable cost of living, access to a decent size airport, and probably good climate....and not too many crazy red necks.

Since you have the freedom to work from anywhere, why do you want to be tied to one place?  or maybe you want a home base and would like to explore as well?

Basically anywhere in southern Greece. And yes, job and family are what's keeping me where I am, but I'd move if I could make even a semi-comparable net income over there. Stuff like Facetime is getting better every day.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, K-State fans could have beheaded the entire KU team at midcourt, and K-State fans would be celebrating it this morning.  They are the ISIS of Big 12 fanbases.

Thanks for posting this Jvon.

I am currently in KC area, and have to say that it's been hard to beat as I compare cost of living and a few other factors as I look at other cities.

I travel a lot, and other cities that have similar costs of living don't usually have as much to offer me as KC.

Only because of my son and possibly more kids.  Wouldn't want them to move schools if I have the option.  I definitely want to travel more and explore so KC is a good spot for that.

Thanks, I have no idea why the sign hasn't been updated.  It had an offer on the first day and we were under contract the next day.  You'll really like the family moving in.  Two young boys and they're huge cat fans.

I hope so.  My biggest beef with KC is the amount of ku/mizzou fans I'll encounter since I refuse to befriend them.  I have a few ksu bros there but I'll be looking forward to my first KCPak.

I won't know until I live there, but from my perspective, KC seems very underrated.  COL, education, sports, stuff to do, travel options, etc.  The weather isn't great for most people, but I like it outside of January and February.
