that's absurd. people would be spending roughly 7% of their free time rotating their tires. hey you going to the game tonight? nope. thursday night is rotate night in the daris household.

I'd like to think that if I had the extra cash to do all the suggested maintenance-y stuff on my car, that I would do so. I totally wouldn't though, there are a million things like rotating your tires that you are supposed to get done way more often than you do. Seems like a big hassle.
pretty awesome until you blow a tire and kill a family of 4

I'm not really negligent, there is just a lot of stuff I could do to make my car last longer, really only hurting myself...although I haven't really done the cost analysis to see if the extra life of the car would be worth all the $$ I paid in maintenance.

What do you drive? F(ront)WD, RWD, or AWD?

Treadlife warranties are riddled with exceptions and generally worthless. Read the fine print of your warranty. First, it probably requires documentation that you rotate your tires at least every 10,000 miles. (And you should rotate your tires every time you get an oil change). you'll need the receipts to prove this.

Second, you generally have to be down to 2/32s of tread in order for the warranty to kick in. Are you down to that?

Third, the wear has to be even across all 4 tires. If it isn't, Goodyear won't honor the warranty - they'll blame it on bad alignment. If it's only your front tires, that's a problem.

Fourth, the warranty is prorated (meaning you've already burned a third of your warranty amount), and can only be applied against another set of Goodyear tires, usually at MSRP.

In summary, you'll probably be better off just buying a new set at a cheaper price. Or, you might consider just rotating your tires and trying to squeeze another 5k of life out of them.

More info on tire warranties. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiretech/techpage.jsp?techid=34

Again, those warranties are pretty much worthless, but if you bought the tires from Sears, they might help you out. It's worth a try. I'd be pissed if I only got 20k out of a set of tires.

Also, treadlife numbers are not realistic, but you should expect to get about 2/3s of that if you properly rotate the tires, keep them properly inflated, and don't drive erratically.

After more thought, (and reading K-S-U who sounds like he knows what he's talking about) I think you are probably hosed on any kind of warranty. You probably hit a curb hard and have alignment issues.

20K? I'd be pissed. Find the receipt for purchase and any rotation. If you can't find them, consider it a life lesson to keep your receipts and rotate your tires.

I think 6-8 thousand miles is the recommended distance between rotations. Depend on the tire.

Yeah, side wall and you are kind of screwed.
Some idiots (tire company lobbyist probably) passed a law that you cannot have two patches on a tire if the patches are within 90 degrees of each other. We used to have 15-20 patches in the same tire back in dobber's younger days. It was like a patchesPAK.

better yet, we just get bikes and then ask for the keys to his car for when we really need it, like if we have a date or something.

I'm getting ready to buy new tires too.  :frown:

go to this site: www.simpletire.com and input the size of your tire.  choose a decent name brand tire and have them delivered to your house.  call around and see which car shops in your area will install tires that you bring in yourself.  I've found that a lot of stand-alone places will.  probably not sears or wal-mart or big places like that.  I'm taking mine to big-o tire.  they said they'll do it for the same price on labor, weight and balance, etc as if you bought the tires from them.  you could save some serious scratch.

good points here.

Can you tell us what kind of car it is?  Are the tires worn evenly?
