amazon drone thing (probably luked?)
« on: December 05, 2013, 10:49:23 AM »
just saw the video of their drone delivering a package.   :horrorsurprise:

yeah that is pretty BA. needs its own thread. How do you keep people from stealing them/packages they carry?

i think a lot of it is that when you order it, you know it will be there in 30 minutes...so people will be at home waiting on it.

i'm interested to see if the FAA lets it happen.

Well, I imagine it's pretty difficult to steal a flying robot. Stealing packages are really not much different than how they are now. This may be even safer because the idea is for 30 minute delivery, so the recipient will likely be ready to receive it.

Isn't the future gonna be rad?

Saw a news thing on this.  Amazon was estimating something like 2-4 million deliveries a day with these. Would suck to live near a fullfillment center and have all that crap in your sky.

JFC this is so stud.

I would order crap all the goddam time.  Would also order for my bros.

"hey officer daris, it's LSOC are you home?"
"yeah, I just rolled some bum but now I'm back.  Why do you ask?"
"go out on your deck"
[drone drops a 30 rack of bud light limes right in his arms]
"let's party!"

Tim could pay you guys in same day delivered amazon gift cards.  We could be done with this whole ordeal today if this was already in practice.

Those are going to kill people all the time.  They better get some good corporate liability litigation defense firms.

they'll be safer than delivery trucks, but the media attention will be amplified if there is ever an incident.

Related, (belongs in my future thread), this great article about automated cars google is working on, and the liability involved. I personally can't wait to get an automated car. It will be the best thing ever.

Agree, I don't think getting hit by one will be much of a safety issue.

Perhaps crazy people in certain regions of the country will try to shoot them down to steal stuff though.

put a passcode on the box that the gift comes in and put a tracking device on the drone so if it gets shot down amazon can call the police.

who needs drones delivering crap when you've got 3D printers.  3D printers?  what's that you say?
oh, i don't know, but i guess it's about time i revolutionize the revolution of how things are delivered.
here's my scenario-
person orders something from amazon.
amazon sends 3D printer on truck to person's house- the Front Door.  person plugs in 3D printer and scans object they ordered from amazon.  3D printer prints the object right there at the person's front door.  NO DRONE NEEDED, NO DELIVERY NEEDED, NO WAIT NEEDED.  INSTANT STUFF.

you guys keep thinking inside the box, i'll be taking my talents to south beach.

Yeah great idea Clams.  Driver shows up, hands 3D printer to customer and then waits an hour for the object to print out.  Sweet.  How can I along with the rest of gE invest all our money in this?

I can't see it happening anytime soon. There's way too much involved as far as flight pattern and safety concerns.

Just think of all the power lines these things would have to maneuver around.
