having a tough time deciding which is worse:  our '11 basketball recruiting or that last episode*.

*this excludes any parts with Desmond in it (which are always incredible).

It was the inevitable episode that showed what Desmond's purpose is and it brought the candidates to Locke.  It's the setup episode before all hell breaks loose.

That was a pretty bad episode. I think it just shows Hurley needs to stick to comedic roles. It felt like the Full House finale where Michelle is regaining her memory from amnesia. That. Bad.

yeah.  I had hated Hurley for so long, then the past two seasons when they quit having him on for more than 2 lines at a time I started to like him.  This one episode brought me full circle.  Hate him now.  The whispers explanation, while obvious, was done horribly.  They might as well of looked directly into the camera and said it.

[theory]It seems like everyone in the alternate timeline is getting what they always wanted, but it's not making them happy.  Desmond got Charles' approval, Charlies band is famous, Hurley is rich and gets to eat lots of free chicken, etc.  But they are all unhappy because they don't have the love of their life.  Then whenever they touch/kiss/etc the person they love they remember something from the island.  It's all about love guys.  Love is the key to the islands box of secrets.[/theory]

Locke wants his legs, Jack wants to fix things   :runaway:

I think it's about those people coming to the realization that the Alt life they are leading is not the life they should or did lead.  It's kind of like the architect's explanation in the Matrix…something about how they created a perfect world but it didn't work.  So they will have to come to some conclusion ("there's always a choice" or in keeping with the Matrix analogy "you take this pill or that pill") about what they want.  The show is kind of turning into lamesville, but it was destined to, I suppose.  No way you could create all those mysteries and then come up with cool/mind blowing explanations for them AND at the same time complete the character arc for each of the characters.

I'm trying to figure out the reasoning for Des plowing Locke over at 50mph.  I guess it doesn't matter, it was funny as hell.  Couldn't stop laughing.

MY THEORY:

We'll find the smoke monster is, in fact, a titanic fart that has escaped Hurley's ass.  The alternate realities are all methane-induced hallucinations.  The "candidates" are people that ate the same combination of foods (we can assume prawns, vegemite, and Fosters) before getting onto the plane.  They have the promise of contributing to the power of the smoke monster, or keeping him at bay through force of individual will and sphincter control.

The smoke monster's primal need to get off the island is a physical property of gas expansion (Boyles law?).  The damage that people fear but have no proof he will unlease on the rest of the world is due to the fact that he is a colossal and smelly fart.  The beauty is that the two camps have the same goal.   One camp wishes to immediately release the Black Smoke from the island, the other is trying to contain him through their internal efforts in the hope that he will fade away.

In this light, the exploding tail section, whispering breeze-like voices, the mysterious hatch, people going down wells and through tunnels, etc. become fairly obvious metaphors.

The eternal struggle of good v. evil  can be boiled down to the decision of whether to let fly on a plane or not.

Des in the ALT timeline is kind of like Jacob in the Original timeline (OTL).  Des is basically trying to get all of the Losties in the ALT to "remember" their experiences they had in the OTL.  Apparently, they can "remember" these things through either love or a near death moment (i.e. Charlie remembered it when he was about to die from swallowing the heroine, Des remembered it when he was about to die in the car that charlie put in the water, hurley remembered when he kissed libby).  So....Des plows into Locke (near death)...which will put Locke in the hospital (the same hospital that Jack works at) and Jack will try to fix Locke's legs.  Also, remember that Jin and Sun are on the way to the hospital as well.....sayid's brother is at the hospital......charlie is probably still running around the hospital....they haven't gotten back to us about Sawyer/Kate/Miles in the ALT but I'd presume something will happen where Kate gets sent to the hospital with Sawyer watching....Also...haven't seen Juliette but in the OTL, she worked at a hospital doing research, would be inclined to say that she might be doing something similar at Jack's hopsital (hell, she could even be Jack's ex-wife in the ALT who we haven't seen yet).

and then someone will turn the frozen donkey wheel in the deep lost basement of the hospital, and the entire hospital will transport to the island.

but I like your theory.

I don't think this is the same well.  IIRC, FLocke said that people dug these wells all over the islands in searh of an answer because in each area their compasses when crazy.  The one that Locke fell into and that Ben went into where they pushed the wheel are in a different location (at that Dharma Station).  I don't know the wells' significance, only that in one of them is a donkey wheel and that Widmore wants to know all of their locations (this is the info that Zoey chick and Widmore were trying to get out of Jin).

Who didn't see Flocke pushing Des into the well way before it happened?

I kept waiting for Des to show back up at camp though.

I think love drives the connection, but in order to get that they have to have some type of experience (love or death related).  so suck on that.  though I'm not sure what "love" will drive Locke's connection...in the ALT he's getting married....maybe his love of his legs?

episode was really meh. and also agree the whisper explanation was terrible. I believe this is the reason some/most of the questions will go unanswered.

Anyone else notice that the only people who know something is inherently wrong are folks who were killed in the first reality?

Charlie, Libby...

Anyway, I thought that was weird.  I can't remember if Locke said something about that.  But I'm guessing it may be somewhat meaningful.

Kate went to the hospital when Claire had her baby.  So both of them went to the same hospital as well.

Juliette isn't likely to be in Lost anymore.  She's too busy hunting aliens these days.

Everybody Loves Hugo - (Hugo)  Not bad, but probably won't compare to the following episodes.
The Last Recruit - (Unknown)  I can't wait for this one.  Any ideas?
The Canidate - (Unknown)
Across the Sea - Jacob and MIB

Charlie is on the FlashForward show, I believe, so you never know.  ABC is pretty good at not caring about using actors for multiple shows.
