The Cats' first half defense continues to be impressive. The only poor 1st half games were Georgetown and South Dakota.

Besides threes, the #bruceketball TO% advantage is settling in nicely, but the OR% advantage is an nice surprise. If the Cats can't get to the oscar 3PT benchmark of 35/35 those two advantages will have to continue into Big 12 play for this team to get to .500+ and contend for a NCAA spot.

looks like you're off to a good start with your new year's resolutions _fan!

I didn't know what to expect with Jevon and he obviously won't keep his ridiculous A/TO rates going, but even if he regresses he brings a lot in that aspect. Hopefully his scoring will come along with more practice.

_Fan, can you add a link to each of these to their individual threads, as you do them in the future.  I like looking back at them.

Since getting back from our P.R. trip =
Our ppp is 1.12 and our opp are at 0.87

Our 0.90 ppp allowed is 10th best in the nation.   The 4 good teams we beat (Osu, Gonz, GW, Miss) only got 0.93 on us.   Those 4 teams only made 16 of 68 3pt on us too.   That is 4 made per game at a 23.5% clip.    Pretty impressive.

And how bout a 132 assist to only 80 TO margain in these last 8 games.   Yep, 1.65 A/TO ratio
First 6 games, it was 0.93 (77 ast 83 TOs)

is there any way you can squeeze airballs per 100 out of those stats and add it to the charts? I think that would be fun to see

The interesting thing is that Embiid's numbers are better (often much better) in nearly every category than Wiggins (Wiggins is slightly better in PTs per 100 and doesn't foul as much).

actually you may be right. He didn't say the name...but Embiid might make more sense.

If an NBA team really takes Wiggins over Embiid, well, I guess that's the reason they have a terrible record and are picking early.

Season Per 100 Totals:

Big 12 Per 100 after 3 games. Season column compares Big 12 after 3 games to their total season numbers.

Nino's scoring numbers in Big 12 play.
Gip's fouls/efficiency.
Omari is a steal machine.

Season advanced stats:

Big 12 only advanced stats:

Offensive efficiency simply must get better if this team is going to make the tournament. With the current shooting, K-State must win the TO% and OR% battles on a consistent basis and this team is not forcing TOs at a high clip in Big 12 play.

It will be interesting to see how this defense responds with one of the Big 12's best offensives vs Oklahoma. OU is also a bubble team, but this is simply a home game the Cats have to win. (as is West Virginia)

Its interesting to see the consistency of #bruceketball, though only 4 Big 12 games is a small sample size. You still see the Cats staying at a mid-60's pace and maintaining similar shot selection. Given the Cats have played 3 of the top 4/5 teams in the league, production/execution being down is not unexpected, though there are things that need to improve.

TO% differential is a big one right now and the Cats lack of ability to force TOs. This was a staple for #bruceketball in year one and forcing TOs at a 20% clip is a staple throughout oscar's coaching career as it was for Lowery. I don't think this team has the offense to win over the course of this season if it stays where it is now in league games, hopefully this one picks up.

I like that one thing that seems to have carried over from Frank is hitting the offensive glass. Granted, the rate isn't in the low 40s, but staying in the mid to upper 30s and winning the OR% battle on a consistent basis, especially with a smaller line-up, creates another notable offensive advantage.

One great game shooting the ball does wonders. Last year the mark to shoot for in the Big 12 was 50% eFG%. I'm not sold that this team will quite get there, but if we can shoot (eFG) around 47-48% on a nightly basis we'll win games, as long as we can win TO% and OR%; getting the shooting to 50% or better will simply create more room for error and the ability to win tougher road games.

Nino is a scoring maching in Big 12 play.

Will's TO numbers are ridiculous for as much as he handles the ball.

Thomas has evened out a bit, but as he becomes more comfortable I'm sure we'll see a lot of his numbers improve.

Gip didn't have his best game, but still is a very productive player.

There have been moments of disappointment for Shane, but he is so good at doing almost everything well.

_FAN, I'm sure we've talked about this before, but when you are doing the individual player per 100s, do you prorate possessions a player played based on minute percentage, or is it the actual number of possessions they were on the court for?
:adios:

My formula uses minutes percentage and possessions for each game to account for only the possessions they were on the floor.

First I find the minutes percentage for the games a player has played in, then I multiple the min% by the games played in and K-State's current average possessions per game. This approximates pretty accurately how many possessions the player has played in. Then I take each stat and multiply by 100 and divide by the possessions they've played in to get their poss per 100.
