If we have to be Zimless, is now the best time of all?
« on: November 17, 2013, 12:22:59 PM »
With Zim out for the foreseeable future, could we have two more perfect opponents to be Zimless??? Hate to lose Zim, but OU and KU can't pass for poop.  Zim is good in every situation, but I'd prefer to have him healthy against a passing team than a running team.

Am I wrong here???

OU's lack of passing ability makes me feel 1,000x better.

We do significantly better against 1 dimensional teams, regardless of how good they are at it (baylor).

How is Baylor one dimensional?

Tech is prolly a better example of one dimensional passing.

They aren't.  It was a poor comment.

Zimmerman is a boss against the run and average against the pass. We will miss him a lot the next two weeks.

No question, but I am guessing that we'd rather have a backup like Schellenberg against a run team than a passing team.  Maybe I am wrong :dunno:

I'm afraid he's a bigger loss against the run.  If I were the stoops I would run blake and his rbs until their dicks fall off.

Pick two game stretch where you'd rather lose Zim, apart from West Virginia and Iowa State.  That's all I am saying here.  Just trying to be positive.  Jeesh, guys.

The real question is whether his backup is better against the run or the pass, at this point, right?

I would say just throw a LB in there but I don't much care for our LBs

The real question should be, is he any good at stopping the run? Whether he can defend the pass is pretty unimportant over the next couple games imo. I don't think either of the QBs we will face are good enough to pick on anybody.

I agree.

Isn't easier to find someone, anyone, on our depth chart to help out against the run than the pass?  I don't know, but I suspect that it is.  Which, I am hoping is a good thing (or at least less of a bad thing).

I don't think the big problem with not having Zim is individual plays on a play by play basis. Schellenberg is not as talented as Zim, but I'm sure he's a capable player at the safety spot. The problem is Zim's experience and knowledge of our defense, and not having him out there probably means we can't run  as much of our defensive package as we'd like to run and we can't make the checks and adjustments on the field that we'd like to make. Granted, I'm sure we have enough guys that can do some of that, but not the entire thing. This defense has gotten beat in one on one match-ups at times or players have made individual mistakes, but rarely do we get beat because we have defenders in the wrong spots on the field. Those kinds of mistakes become much more likely without the guy that usually makes those checks and calls on the field in games.

I'd pick a stretch where we don't play OU, a team we rarely beat

Was i seeing it right when it looked like Slaughter was in charge of making the reads and adjustments after Zims went out?  We could do worse than a six year engineering major calling the shots imo.

This, he is increds against the run.  Especially the outside the tackles runs.  Schnellerenbergermeister better step up.
