drove through Olpe the other day and their sign boasted like 250 people.  I think they still have a high school.  WTF is the point when Emporia is less than 10 mikes away?

This small towns around Emporia are something else.

There's one called, "Americus," or something like that.

I was told that there is a lot of Satanic activity in the Americus area. Can anyone confirm?

Grew up in Emporia.  If that was going down in Americus, and I passed through or did things in the Americus area all of the time.

So, unless someone has direct knowledge, I'd say no.

Of course, reality means nothing.  Sort of like the diptards that hang out at Stull from KU.

I believe the sign says 520 not 250.  And as is the case with many Kansas small towns, I would guess most of the population lives outside the city limits.  The population that feeds the school is likely somewhere between 1,000-1,500.

853 is a lot of people compared to many Kansas towns.

I don't see the point

Would certainly slash the $$ needed for education spending if we limited funding to towns with populations greater than 1000 right? Good point seven.

Duh, it's in the middle of white midwesterny and the place is called the Chicken House.  Might as well be a bullseye.

In context his statement was "I don't see the point of a town existing with only 853 people."

Seven if that is not what you meant, perhaps you should put even a tiny bit of effort into your posts. I know it is really hard for you to write more than one sentence, and/or to add any value with your statements, but the effort would be appreciated.

what if I told you Emporians drive to Olpe for dinner?

Back in the day, when I lived in Emporia, a ton of (often inebriated) Emporians tended to drive at very high speeds to Olpe when they realized they were going to run out of booze too early in the night.  In Emporia liquor stores close by ordinance at 9:00 p.m., but there was that Olpe window after that "Oh, crap" moment hit but people realized they had 15 minutes to get to Olpe.

This  may or may not be related, but there is a downside to all of this.

I have a few buddies who are brothers and grew up in Ashland, KS. Their family are successful ranchers. They are both looking ahead to a prosperous life, but are desperate to find a girl while in Manhattan. That's because when they move home their options will be between bucktooth Sally and using Farmers Meet (which we know is full of gold diggers).

So it might seem glorious, but it aint all glitter and gold.

good grief, I didn't think anyone actually lived in that town.  Grey County was the only county, thus far, that had feral hogs show up to their county fair.

"Ashland is the largest city in and the county seat of Clark County, Kansas, United States"
"Population: 853 (2013)"
Clark County, thanks for the catch

Sorry RR, I was not trying to silverback you.  I was just amazed that the largest city in an entire county has a population of 853.

I live in Wabaunsee County's most heavily populated town containing a jaw dropping 832 people.   :blindfold:

You shut your dirty whorish mouth, Brock Landers! Wabaunsee County has a booming metropolis with more than 1000 people that goes by the name of Alma!
