What are we doing now that makes me think we are much improved from week 1?

I feel like the front 7 is doing a much better job.  Is this accurate?

I feel like the secondary is still trying to come together, but marginally better.

I haven't seen a goetard mention Tibesar in a while, so I think I'm on to something

My OP may have been a little cryptic.

What I meant to say was: _Fan, tell me where the defense is improving the moat

Rush defense. 3.4 YPC vs OSU and 2.95 vs BU. If we can contain the run and start forcing turnovers then good things will happen. And nobody left will put the pressure on our defense that Baylor did.

Again, this defense replaced a lot of players and I think they are starting to come together and can be very solid (not great).

Controlling the clock is a huge part of it, imo. The defense is getting better against the run, but they are not fundamentally sound in the secondary. Lots of blown schemes and coverages.

I though our front 4 were really good the last two weeks.  Good containment and pressure on passing downs and excellent against the run.  I feel like our lbs have improved in pass protection a great deal (better than last year?).

I was extremely intoxicated during both games though.

The front 7 is getting much better. Roberts is very limited physically, and has probably peaked. We were burned 3 times against Baylor with absolutely no support from the safeties. If I had to pick one, I'd rather be able to stop the run than the pass, but we aren't going to be a good defense until we can stop both with some consistency.

I was impressed by Marquel Bryant. Didn't expect big things from him this season, but I feel like he's held up very well for a sophomore.

We are good and better at home on this part. Tuck will tuck, but our stadium presence (fans) through these harsh times made a difference last week.

At the end of the year this D may very well be able to hold its head high and say "hey at least we never gave up over 50 points"   :whistle1:

I think the most important thing is that they are finding playmakers.
If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

Ok, maybe I don't no all the nuances that go on along the d-line, but has anyone ever noticed that our d-line just does a "bull rush" every down?  Before the snap, there is no "sliding over" or mixing things up to confuse the o-line.  And when they rush, they just bull rush, no spin moves or karate kicks or anything....

How easy is that for the o-line?  Is Mo L. past his prime (I think so, but whatever).  I don't think our front four get good pressure, it seems the only way we get pressure is to blitz....

Just curious what other's thought.

you can do that in the big twelve, especially if you are playing nickel. you fill gaps and have your speed make up the difference. there is a reason slaughter has 52 tackles already

That's true, but it's not really an excuse for leaving WRs wide open on 90 yard bombs.

It was the same DB’s and LB’s.

This isn’t magic or players who’ve been playing football since they were in middle school figuring out how to tackle.  It’s that we have been exposing subpar/less talented players less often than before.   Less plays, more energy, less offensive “rhythm”, more pressure on offenses because of limited touches, more field to work with, etc.  I'm sure more game experience helps, but not as much as just not being out there to screw up.
