The talk about Hubert by some on here and elsewhere is reaching Tuck like absurdity.

Sure the kid plays hard, sure he runs hard, but he's just not that good. He's really not that fast, and while he can be tough to bring down, he isn't that tough to bring down. He's kind of shifty, but not that shifty, he's not a break away threat at any time, and he's likely never going to house anything from any distance unless the defense is just completely fooled or the blocking at the point of attack and on the next level is outstanding. No decent defense fears Hubert at all.

Having your quarterback run the ball 20 more times than your starting tailback is not good. You can slobber all over Sams all you want, but he's not good enough to beat any decent defense all by himself with his legs. Our over reliance on the QB running game hurt K-State down the stretch last year, and it continues to hurt in the midst of all the other offensive cluster effs this year.

I have to wonder if the running backs behind him are any good, or if Snyder is putting too much stock in Hubert's tenacity and experience. We've only seen a small amount of Rose and Robinson, and given that last year Pease was at least able to take snaps away from Hubert outside of late game blowouts, I'd think the others would see some time if they were worth a crap.

Well, in reality, Hubert was running behind the real First Team All Big 12 Running Back named Colin Klein. Hubert was the change of pace.

Hubert is just a bit too small to carry the load of the first team guy. But if we had a bigger guy with talent, Hubert would be killer as the change of pace.

Hubert is better and or more productive than most RBs that Snyder, or Prince, has had the last 20 years. The list of those clearly better/more productive is short

I'd listen to an argument for Frank Murphy but he didn't produce numbers. Snyder has had good running QBs that overshadowed or more accurately negated the need for a feature back. This is why I think the 2003 team was unquestionably the best we've had.

I'd maybe throw Scobey up there too, MIR, but I agree with your point. And Big Sam, I agree with what you're saying too. Hubert has a hard time creating on his own as an every down back, but he's very, very productive when there's another threat to run in the backfield, i.e. Klein/Sams.

But Dax is way off base. Hubert is certainly a capable back, as exhibited by his first team all big 12 selection last year. To say otherwise is silly.

Sorry, there's just been to many times that a more explosive back would have had much bigger gains that what Hubes managed to do, and either the coaching staff has gone full on dementia, or they don't believe Hubes is a workhorse back.

Hubes is running kind of weird this year. Tentative. Maybe its because our line is getting blasted into his lap.

I've made the point before that I think a major reason Hubert has won the job is the heavy use of zone read and stretch read in the current manifestation of Snyder's offense. But he's also decent (especially for his size) of running power/zone stuff, mainly because he's not prone to bounce his runs, but stays vertical. I'm not sure that a lot of those past backs would've been very good with zone read stuff either.
