Why are so many people so certain that that was a fumble? From what I saw on the replay, there was not 100% indisputable evidence that the RB wasn't down. I just don't get what everyone else is seeing.

You never can see when the ball changes hands. You can see when Gray's knee goes down, though, and at that point, the ISU player with the ball is already at about the 10 yard line running for the endzone.

I just watched this frame by frame. I wish I had the technology to share this HD screen cap I have. The still I'm looking at has Gray's entire right leg, from the thigh down on the ground while the LB that stripped him, 52, is still engaged with Gray. UTs fullback and the ISU LB who made the strip are completely obscuring the ball from the camera so you can't tell who is in possession. It isn't until several frames later that you can definitively see 52 with the ball.

The replay official absolutely made the correct (no)call.

Well, maybe I'm wrong. I'm just going by what I saw last night, where it clearly looked like a fumble. Maybe his knee touched earlier than what I was watching.

It did, I missed this last night too. I think when the lb stripped Gray he lifted him up a little bit.

You do.  Pause it at that moment on tv, slingbox it to your phone/tablet, then take a screenshot of that.

First time I figured that out was that shot of oscar sniffing his hand.

Flood Waters jokes would be too easy and beneath us (comically) if that loser had gone to Iowa State, right?

Don't be coy, you really like that joke, but you just wanted to test the waters before showing your excitement.

You just flat out can't tell if the ball's out.

If it was a bad call, it's not blatant.  Rhoads' behavior in the press conference makes him look like a huge baby.

I was referring to the camera on the LOS but this does the trick too.

Ha.  Big 12 statement mushes Rhoads' fat face:

Quote
On this play, the covering official ruled the runner was down and still had control of the ball. There is no question the runner ends up on the ground, and there is no question that eventually an Iowa State player ends up with the ball.  However, after reviewing the video evidence it is impossible to tell with certainty when the runner loses control of the ball and at that point was he down or not.

The conference would acknowledge in this unique situation if a mistake were made, but we do not have the video evidence to prove that one occurred.

I would argue that 52's hands are close to Gray's knees and that there is absolutely no way that Gray could still have possession of the ball in that area, but yeah, this isn't nearly as egregious as I thought it was last night.

I was watching and from my observation it was very difficult to tell if the ball was out.   I just don't see how they could over rule the call on the field.   Rhodes reaction is that of a guy who is trying to play the "I've got my team's back" card so Flood Aggies will rally around and give him another contract extension in the face of major mediocrity.

Rhoads was doing it for the fanbase.  When some fans bring up that he has a shitty record and should be fired at the end of the season, a lot more fans will say "Yea, but he pretty much beat Texas"

The real embarrassment was Mack Brown celebrating inconclusive evidence to potentially beat Iowa State.

Overall, I can't remember seeing Mack Brown that animated in a long time.  Not just then, but throughout the game.

I can't stand Rhoads, mostly because of his postgame speech after they beat Nebraska and after last night's bitching.

Also, he whines about every call that doesn't go ISU's way. I do hope he stays at ISU for a long itme though. He will never have ISU above mediocrity.

Btw, Cyclonefanatic is great right now. Every single one of them is 100% convinced that it was without a doubt a fumble, and that the replay clearly shows that it was a fumble. It's hilarious.

Havs, which was more devastating to ISU fans...The "fumble" last night or the "charge" that Niang took?

Rhodes' rant was on the CBS Natonal News this morning, the anchor said ISU has now lost 11 straight conference openers. I don't care enough to fact check but  :horrorsurprise:  :'bye cruel world: if true

Just checked and it is correct, they haven't won a conference opener since 2002. In that time frame they have only spent 5 total weeks above .500 in conference play. Conference record of 27-64. If we went winless from 2002-2006 we would match that record.

They're okay with this and this is the garbage that steffy wants us to associate with.

Yep, that was exactly my point....we should strive to emulate Iowa State's football record.  Glad you understood.

We need a win tomorrow to get something better to talk about.

How many threads dedicated to that ridiculous pass defense before halftime? Maybe Rhoads opening statement should've addressed that and his opinion on the officiating.

We Are Iowa State... damn right we are. And have you seen what it says above the facemasks of our players? It says "All In"

Because that’s what we are. We are Iowa State and We Are ALL IN. Last night I saw a great Big XII game on ESPN. More importantly, I saw Jack packed and a blue collar football team that makes me feel great to be a Cyclone. We finally found out how to use our run game, utilize open spaces when they were there, and how about that 97 yard pass play?!?! Holy shittin crap! Cyclone Nation has endured a lot and always will. It’s what being a Cyclone fan is. But to see our team match up to Texas, our rough ridin' awesome goal line defense dig their toes in and be a god damn stone wall, a beyond passionate coach, and a team that is on paper… less talented knock around one of the richest and more talented teams in the Big XII…. is incredible to me, but I also expect it. I rough ridin' love Iowa State, love the all the athletic teams and the school. And damned if I won’t continue to be passionate and proud of a team that has improved and will continue to fight every Saturday. Proud to be a god damn Cyclone. Hell yeah. Loyal sons forever true! Damn, I need beer.
