I'm glad he was able to write them a note. It seems like the circumstances of his leaving (at least as we know them) would have left a ton of unanswered questions.

I may be out in left field here, but has anyone thought that maybe he wrote the notes then drove his van into the ravine? It was publicly stated that he had mental issues so that can't be too far out there of a theory right?

Just spitballin here though...seems pretty wild that he took off, no cell, no credit cards, health issues and ended up being able to travel halfway across the US and end up in a wreck where his vehicle fell over 50' into a ravine. How did he eat or buy gas or sleep? Just bumming in his van? THEN, to top it all off, he had enough consciousness to find something to write with and something to write on and write notes to his family. I'm just saying that it's a hard, hard story to believe.

The O&M manuals from the '00 Pontiac van shows OnStar as a standard feature. Now I'm not sure if it was still hooked up or any other details, but its interesting if they had the capability to track but didn't do it.

iirc gm  started installing Onstar on everything. However,  the ones before 2005ish all use analog radios that were shut off a  few years ago and it is unlikely this can had been upgraded with the digital parts gm offers for older vehicles.

I guess people can just say anything online these days.

He (just as LHCBS would) handwrote some letters in a wrecked van as his last act to be discovered later by an angel disguised as a hitchhiker.

LHCBS is the exception to the rule though.

That guy should have used his last energy to drag his ass out of his car rather than hunting down stationary and longhanding out some notes.

I mean, the insurance company isn't paying up on this, guys.

His google history probs includes something involving this area and traffic reports.

knew a girl that was driving from wichita to kc. turned around when she got to OKC  :sdeek:

I can only imagine the thought process that would make somebody continue driving when they hit the Oklahoma state line, let alone continue for another 3 hours or so. I really hope that when she got to OKC, she found somebody and asked them how much further it was to Kansas City.

I am not hur'ing.  I just think it is an example of misguided belief.  But she isn't reading this and I'm not personally telling her she can't make up a hitch hiking angel to make her feel some closure and peace.  I should save that stuff for a thread on religion.  Her loss sucks and I hope she finds the peace she deserves no matter what the method.
