Did you guys ever get nervous at your first big boy job?
« on: August 07, 2013, 10:19:59 AM »
:dunno: Advice? I sit around a lot of execs and I have to do a lot of conference calls with them hovering over me. How do you get over this anxiety and be yourself around this ppl? I'm still trying to figure it out.

Are you out of your league at your new job, meaning overmatched by what is asked of you?  If so, then you should be nervous.  If not, then I'd suggest not being a pussy.  I'm positive there's nothing special about any of the assholes milling about you.  They're you, just older if that helps.

That does help. They're just a bit intimidating. The only thing that sucks is learning software. They've been around it way longer and say it takes awhile to know. Sometimes talking to IT ppl is like speaking spanish. I'm coming around though. I was 2nd on the team in sales last month and that was the first month I had an account list.

WS08, is your software something that you could use?  If so, use the crap out of it.  Create fake accts, jobs, etc and really get to understand it rather than just memorizing the stuff IT explains to you.  Understand what IT is explaining.

Understanding product is the key to sales.

If the guys around you told you it takes a while to figure out and you're doing well in sales, what on Earth are you worried about?

Are you worried they won't like you? My armchair psychology may be spotting a trend....

Cause they're also demanding a lot right away. They are pressuring us to create a bigger pipeline soon. It's kind of a catch 22. A lot of the sales I've received are existing accounts reaching out to me for quotes and other software related things.

As the talking for a loving thing, that was sports, I can speak all day on something I'm familiar with. However, as you know, sound like an idiot when I don't.

Wacky, I'll be in KC on Friday. I'll swing by and give you some pointers on how to do your job.  Have a spreadsheet of all your clients ready and we'll knock this out in an hour.

Sell, sell, sell, sell . . . all the process stuff will come.

You won't keep your job by knowing the processes (note:  I didn't say NOT know the rules), if you sell a bunch, they'll help you with the process.

Nobody is going to say, "Well Wacky didn't sell $hit, but dang it he really knows the processes if he were to sell something."
