A bowl that was a selected, 'quality' bowl, to appear before a national audience by either the Bowl Coalition, Bowl Alliance, and/or, with respect to the times, BCS.
If we are using the most fluid selection, of which we would have to if Kansas wants to feel special as their 47, 68, and 75 bowls were before the 'quality' selection committees and they wouldn't count for much - sucks to suck, we'd pick the big bowls of the past and the (as its more selective now, with an immensely biased voting panel) BCS big bowls now.
Following bowls were, have/had, and are selective with their choices and fit the criteria (with their times) as a big bowl:
Hancock, Gator, Blockbuster, Cotton (YUP), Sun, Fiesta, Orange, Sugar, and the Rose bowl. (Am I missing one?? Might be, oh well).
Kansas :
Orange Bowl 1947 (L)
Orange Bowl 1968 (L)
Sun Bowl 1975 (L)
Orange Bowl 2007 (W)
