Did Long even interview him?  After the last episode, I can't imagine someone talking with Miles for a prolonged period of time and giving him a job.  He doesn't sound healthy.

Highlights:
I didn't realize it, but KU scored at the 11:30 mark in the first quarter and was done after that.  They had a camera on Long during the game and he said he was "sick to his stomach" when they went behind.  Talked about how the players had expected to get bowl eligibility (lol).  Had clips of Pooka, Stanley, and Moragne talking a little bit.  Les can't string 2 sentences together without struggling.

You guys, coastal Carolina was a classic trap game. Sure I'm disappointed that a seasoned national championship winning coach like miles didn't have his players better prepared to avoid the trap but it happens. The ship is already righted, Hawks roll and win a snoozer 42-8. #beakthem

I'm not going to watch that, but I would appreciate weekly highlights

I used to say the same about Jersey Shore years ago.... but after one episode, it's hard not to watch the weekly trainwreck.

easy there, poopy-britches...

Ain't nobody talkin' crap on the shore.  I love me some GTL'n as much as the next guy.

Simply stating that "miles to go" is a guilty pleasure that almost rivals that of the shore.

Now.... let me  :tsc: in peace.

Jeff Long is socially awkward. And like others have pointed out, how could you have a conversation with Les Miles more than two minutes and think hiring him would be a good idea. Some of the talks he gives in front of the team are painful to watch.

My favorite Les Miles moment so far was post Indiana State Victory.

Reporter asked Les why he had a New York Yankees hat on. Les explained how he ate a great corn dog in New York a decade ago and it was to inspire greatness in his football players..

Beams is an absolute treasure.
If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

Les’ comments to Stanley after the first INT:

“You got a big time throw there if you don’t throw it.  You know what I mean?”

Between that and his locker room talk post game you have to just feel awful for the guy. He isn’t in a coherent state of mind.

It really is a little uncomfortable to watch.

When my grandma was losing it, she would always struggle to figure out the right words and then say "oh you know what I mean!"  It's like, "not really, but that's OK.  Still love you grandma."

Maybe he is actually really sharp still and figured the speech difficulties would allow him to retire for "health reasons" whenever he wants.  I would not be surprised if he steps down midseason because he didn't realize how much his enjoyment of coaching depended on wins.

I believe that the reason he took the job was for money.  As in, he was broke.  I bet he has succumb to numerous phone and email scams and has exhausted his financial reserves.

After watching the ESPN series I got the feeling Miles really wanted to coach again but nobody would touch him.  He took the KU job basically because it was the only one available and he also assumed it would be as simple as him showing up to start turning it around and go out as a coach who orchestrated an amazing turnaround in his swan song.

I also think Jeff Long only wanted him from the word go assuming pretty much the same thing.  They worked together in Michigan. He knew the KU fans would be super excited about the hire and he could get more money out of donors with the big name.  It didn't sound like he wanted to talk to ANYONE else seriously.

Part of me thinks Miles is walking around knocked out on his feet and completely stunned and has no clue what the eff he's going to do to fix anything.

I had to add this... from Miles being asked about the matchup tonight.

Quote
Miles was also asked about the biggest challenge going against that kind of an offense.

"Well, it's to get numbers to the ball and making sure that we match their intensity and play physical football ourselves," Miles said. "We have some advantages. We'd like to play on the advantage side of things."

Can anyone think of any possible advantage KU has anywhere on the field... like at all?  Punter?
