they should have left track at Memorial and built a new football stadium like baylor but 1) no one cares about football 2) poor and 3) they are more enamored with a hill (which they call The Hill).  a real bunch of weirds

Even if they wanted to keep the hill location, play a season or two at sporting park in order to tear the thing down.  They are just lighting half their budget on fire if they try to keep that stadium.

New idea:  Tear down Memorial since it's a lost cause and build a stadium ON The Hill.  The Hawks would be able to score some TD's going in the downhill direction.  Obvisouly other teams would score even more TD's but their games would turn into high scoring and thusly more entertaining shootouts.

Their parking situation is the worse thing I've ever witnessed at a D1 University. All because of a hill. They don't draw a crowd, so it's fine, but if they ever want to build something, they might want to start with a parking lot near the facility.

Agree the stadium cannot be retrofitted or saved. The idea that there's some aesthetic value to that location might ne the most delusional thing going, in the world. It's a rough ridin' unkempt field on a moderate pitch, covered in weeds and unmanicures trees with a filthy stock pond.

They'd be smart to build a $75 million 18000 capacity stadium with working utilities over on the southwest side of campus where there's parking and actual road infrastructure. $300 million is a pipe dream and bad money after bad.

In my visits to Lawrence over the last decade I've been increasingly disappointed.   That campus from an aesthetic value has plummeted substantially.  It's still this weird hodge podge of architecture with extreme variations from the central (and aesthetically pleasing) theme on the original core campus. 

They've done a terrible job in this regard, and no, it's not an interesting eclecticism, it's just bad.   Respective to football, the exterior of the Anderson Football Center is just plain LOL awful.    I get the low profile and not wanting to block off the hill, but that was an ode to a limited budget and doing it on the cheap.

Pretty sure the Overbrook City Council turned them down on this...have to check the council meeting minutes, but I believe it was mainly fears of "rip his rough ridin' head off!" and too much Thunderstruck disturbing the tranquility of their pleasant athletic complex.

This is the best answer. They honestly need to look at what TCU did when they redid Amon G Carter. That reno was $164 mill, $300 mill seems steep AF.

Truth, everything from the fountain to Wescoe to their union is on point and cool, but once you get away from that it goes downhill, figuratively and literally, fast.

Budig, strong, and snow are the only attractive buildings on the campus and that's because they look like they belong at KSU cats
