And I guess I understand where an argument could be made, OU is one of the best football programs of all time, and KU is kind of close to being one of the top basketball programs of all time (almost a blue blood).. but wouldn't it be basically a hypothetical situation to argue where alignment was about something else?

Why is it assumed OU is above us? If alignment isn't about football anymore but content, it seems to me, we offer more.

The argument being made here can be made pretty rationally. Who were the last two schools moved in realignment? Maryland, KU, OU, and Rutgers; which of these are less like the other?

I think this is where we need to point out that correlation does not equal cause and effect.  You're suggesting Maryland and Rutgers were chosen because they have crappy FB programs, which makes zero sense.  KU is nowhere near their level when it comes to delivering new markets/TV sets.  On top of that, let's just say a lot of people think the Maryland/Rutgers move was a mistake.

Uh, I wasn't arguing that at all, not even a little bit. My argument is that the Big 10 feels media markets are much more important than football accomplishment, as a matter of fact the Big 10 selection those two schools had absolutely nothing to do with football, obviously. The argument here is KC+ICT+TOP > OKC+TUL, this is an inarguable fact. I don't necessarily think that KU is a more valuable property than OU, but the notion isn't insane.

I wouldn't laugh at this. Nobody knows more about things that aren't even about football than they do.

if KU gets to include all of KC then OU gets a least to count a significant chunk of DFW

That's not how it works. When conferences make these decisions it's based on the home media markets, not where the fans are. College sports are regional because college graduates move. You start talking about where fans are then you get things like KU claiming pieces of Chicago and K-State claiming a part of DFW.

Thinking about this last round of expansion/realignment, the only school added to the Pac 10, ACC, Big 10, and ACC that was about football and not media markets was Nebraska possibly Utah. The Big 12 schools added were bad adds because they were football adds and not media market adds. I suppose you can claim that the Big 12 added WVU for Pittsburgh but, uh that's weird.

Media market size is more important for conferences milking their conference network subscription model.  It's still important for the Big 12 to a degree,  but putting quality games on TV that people nationwide will tune in to is far more important.

Ultimately,  the forced subscription model will fail.  It will. What will matter are nationally relevant games (has mattered and always will)  followed by strong fan bases that will watch their team through thick and thin.  The SEC is in a great spot either way.  The Big 10 is next up,  but ultimately taking Rutgers and Maryland will be mistakes. The Big 12 is next up and then there will be a pretty big drop off to the ACC and PAC.  That's if every conference membership stays as-is through this change.

The guy modeling them seemed just a little too amped up for KU football. He should have his head down and shoulders slumped a little, occasionally letting out a little "lets go" and clapping.

should also have a huge dip in

It looks like KU football is dropping off stacks of tickets at elementary schools in nearby towns to help boost attendance. A friend of mine and his wife from Topeka were supposed to go to the Texas game with me but he texted me Tuesday night and said he had to take his kids to the KU OSU game instead because they got free tickets from their school. Any T-Town cats able to confirm this devious tactic?

UMKC does this with basketball and YMCA youth basketball teams.

Basically, what I am saying, is that KU football is going even further than UMKC basketball to try to get as many tickets used as possible, in that they aren't even trying to target a reasonable related audience(basketball and youth basketball).  They are just throwing tickets to all kids.

Sad.

The Miami Heat would move to Lawrence if they built them a new stadium, and KU would totally do that, except for the Americans with Disabilities Act.
