Kansas University football coach David Beaty has put the finishing touches on his KU coaching staff, a source told The Journal-World on Wednesday.

Kenny Perry, who spent the past two seasons at TCU, has agreed to join the Jayhawks as a defensive backs coach and co-defensive coordinator.

Known for his recruiting prowess throughout Texas, Perry, a former Texas high school football coach, comes to KU with 22 years of coaching experience and is the final full-time assistant coach hired by Beaty.

Before joining the TCU program, where he spent the 2013 season as the director of high school relations and recruiting and 2014 as TCU's cornerbacks coach, Perry served as the head coach at Bowie High in Arlington, Texas, from 2006-12. Prior to that he was the head coach at Haltom High School (2004-05) and Arlington Sam Houston (2000-03).

One source said Perry's addition, along with Beaty's already strong reputation, should further strengthen KU's recruiting presence in Texas and put the Jayhawks back on the map for some of the state's top players.

Yeah, if I'm a top Texas prospect and being recruited by these new 'Hawk coaches, I'm definitely choosing KU over TCU, Baylor, Texas, aTm, etc. Makes perfect sense. 'Hawk juggernaut coming.

I wonder how Bowen is enjoying the huge steaming pile of disrespect that KU has taken on him?

You never know, I guess, but hiring a staff of guys who really haven't done anything at all at the collegiate level seems, well, not smart.

I know KU was doing this on a budget, and they're trying to do a low cost/high ceiling sort of thing, which is totally fine, but man, it's going to be ugly for a few years.

Beatty has barely been a coordinator and hired some coordinators that have barely been coordinators.  The most tenured and proven guy on that entire staff is Bowen.

I'm sure that they'll recruit decently well given how hamstrung they are from a facilities standpoint.  It looks like they'll be running an air raid offense, so I guess they can recruit to that.

in basketball you just need players and a little coaching knowledge

is football the same?  is there something unique about college football that makes a lot of experience relevant?

Awesome.  What a staff.  Couldn't ask for anything more.  Let these guys get to work and the AD get to work on convincing the deep pockets of the importance in having an awesome stadium.  5 years from now things could look completely different in a good way.
