This brings up a point I don't understand. I was talking to a KU person about facilities around the league and country. I mentioned that I was happy that K-State was finally in the race and I said KU is going to need to start pretty soon. He told me they just built the new track complex along with a basketball rules museum, so they are doing their part.

I let it go because was a little unsure. Did KU build the track complex? If so, how much of the total cost did they spend? My understanding was that the city built the facility with little or no cash injected by KU, and KU is going to pay an annual fee for the right to use the city's facility. KU will have to share it with all of the other entities that want to use it, but KU will get 'first dibs' on when they can have access.

Am I way off base?

A solid gold track complex right in the middle of campus and next to any well liked hill is still just a track complex.

The fact that the friend in the initial equation believed that a new track and a pretty minor museum are significant contributions to the facilities arms race, I'd say not much thinking is required to win that argument.

To show everyone we're serious about athletics we should build the world's largest nuclear reactor and use it to make giant sized plants for a jurassic era botanical gardens, and then put a track around it, but not just a running track, a nascar track.
