At the worst case scenario, KU would stop playing in the B12 for awhile.  Schedule easier competition, to build positive momentum for a period of time.  This would take the pressure off, and then KU could start fresh in the B12 several years down the road.

As KU continues to lose, a negative self-destructive environment becomes one of the biggest obsticals to winning.

Maybe if the B12 splits up anyhow, KU gets into an easier league.  Maybe take KSU, ISU and form a new league, add teams like Biose St,  Memphis, etc.  Then schedule non-conference opponents with traditional regional rivals like Missouri, Neb and CU.  KU would sell alot of tickets if NEB or Mizz were coming to town.

Not saying this should done, I am just trying to answer the original question.

If KU could drop football to the FCS level and join the Big East for basketball, do you think they would at least consider it?

Take all of the realistic problems and pragmatic reasons (like money) out of the equation.  If they could have enough money to cover their expenses and have the exact same basketball program they have now, do you think they'd consider the move?

The problem with that is that K-State would be in a more prestigious conference than them.

A source told The Dash that it would not be a shock to see “a Power 5 coach taking a better mid-major” job this offseason. Which raised the question: which football programs are operating far enough beneath their membership privilege to make a group-of-five job an actual step up? The list:

Seems like it could be a good year for KU to find a coach that has more experience than Beaty, though.  I mean, didn't someone say we are already up to something like a dozen jobs opening up?  That's a lot of experienced coaches floating around and I am sure there are more to come.

Putting Iowa State and KSU at the end of their schedule does them no favors at all. They'll still have severe depth issues next year. When you're in the position that they are in I'm guessing you want the winnable games early.
