Kstate's Center Post Rating (3 votes)
Maybe I am way off base here & I just never noticed before but in watching some of that kstate/ttech game, the center for ksu would stand directly above the football and every single time would move the ball a good chunk of real estate forward. Maybe all teams do this, but specifically this made a big difference in a goal line attempted stand by ttech...the ball was at the 1, 2nd down and he advanced the ball a football length past the blue line on TV where the ref spotted it...ttech calls a timeout. I expected when back from commercials that the officials would have moved it back, instead he agains stands directly over the ball and ttechs lineman keep moving backwards as a result. By this point he snaps it from less than the half yard line n they do their typical qb sneak...but in a game of inches, I was surprised to see nobody paying any attention to this...what I can only imagine is blatant cheating? Am I wrong here? Is this common practice?

I see a lot of centers do it, but not to that extent.

Kstate has also been known to cut the lines to the visitor's headsets when they get behind in a game.

Technically once referee signals the ball ready for play, then the neutral zone is established. It is then a dead ball foul if Center is moves ball beyond neutral zone or simulates the start of the play.
I wasn't able to watch that game, so cannot comment on series you referenced.

Re: Kstate's Center
LHC Bill Snyder is a master of spotting rules that are hard to enforce, rarely called and coaching his team to exploit those rules. Cheat just enough to not get caught, but still provide an advantage. Offensive linemen downfield on a pass, passes beyond the line of scrimmage, shifting the ball forward before the snap, etc... You see them do this kind of stuff consistently and, while technically against the rules, they are rarely flagged. None by themselves are huge advantages, but when you are at a talent disadvantage, every little thing helps.

It's been that way for as long as I can remember. They do it by setting the tone early in the game.

You got that right Duke. Because they set the tone early, it only gets called when it's egregiously obvious. He teaches that.
