I have heard some insider speculation that the track complex thing built east of campus was to help build up some infrastructure in that direction. Cerner guy wants the new stadium built closer to KC, and the stadium east of town was his idea. We all know that Zulu listens to big time donors. This thing may have legs.

Layers...."east of town" which would be west of the city.
Or was the track complex built west of the town?

I do not want a stadium like what KSU has. I know they are proud of it, and that is all the really should matter, but I want our Stadium to be something special.

guys, they really don't like The Bill .....it makes me  :Crybaby:

.....when is the last time a KU fan bothered to travel to Manhattan for a football game ? 2007 ?    :dunno:

Good God we finally have a billionaire in Kansas City that likes sports and he'd rather spend it on a stadium for a team that has won less games in the last 5 years than # of players arrested, instead of buying an NBA franchise.

Hayseed.

I'm glad we don't have to make up stuff about how someone is going to give us large donations to make us feel better about our crappy program.  We already have it.

some hawk fan sat like 2 rows ahead of me at the game last year. I cheered really loud when they had a positive play in the first half and she turned around and yelled at me about having good sportsmanship or something. she said there were kids there, and I asked if i had cursed or anything(which I hadn't, I was just really happy they did something positive), I think she thought about it and knew it was a dumb thing for her to say anything. She didn't even watch the second half  :frown:

We have multiple billionaires in KC now and most of them invested in Sporting KC (Mainly the Cerner guys - AKA KU's wealthiest alumni). Also, if they tore down Memorial and built it from the ground up they would just play at Sporting Park until it was finished.

The wealthiest person in KC, that I'm aware of, is an Oklahoma State graduate.

And I think the SKC guys would be more willing to buy another professional sports franchise before they'd dump that kind of money into a college sports team that they can't generate revenue from.

Yes, Neil Patterson. But Cliff Illig is close behind. Whom is apparently KU's "secret Weapon". Patterson donated the second most amount of money to OSU for their football stadium behind T-BOONE.

I don't think shellshock understands how big time athletics work

What do you think I do for a living? This is basically my job and i'm telling you, they don't have the money. If they have a successful season (doubtful), they'll start their fundraising efforts to build the damn thing. To say that they have 5 or 6 donors on board that will just join together to give the full $100mil-$200 mil needed to rebuild the stadium at the drop of a hat is ridiculous though.
Their situation has nothing to do with money.  It's a Title IX problem.  All the Swiss bank accounts in Lawrence don't amount to a scenic hill of beans until they can finagle a way around that issue.  Not a big deal, really.  They'll hire someone capable of some fancy lawyering, chip him off some serious change, and start on the stadium right after they start consistently winning big.

Do some research before popping off about our well endowed friends on the Kaw, will you please?

You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealth out of prosperity.
What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.
The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.

Are they going to hit up David Booth?  Man, that guy gave $300 million to the University of Chicago school of business.  Or did Booth shoot his wad with the aforementioned donation?  Booth is a native of Lawrence, gives to the BB program, and hired Todd "Sprinkles" Reesing after his football career at KU.

Exactly. Just like all the big time schools, Title IX is ruining them.

Just met two young KU football players at BWW...
Friday at 1:00 AM
(25 votes)

And I have to say, they were some of the nicest, classiest, young men I've met in a long time.  They came in at the very end of the chumps game.  Both were from texas and both freshman on the field.  One said he played linebacker and is number 17 and plays on special teams,...the other one said he was number 96 and starts at defensive tackle.  Number 17 interestingly enough went to Deion's prime prep academy and said he was Muiday's cousin.  I talked with them about Deion being at the chump's game, and what prime prep was like and how many football helmets they have and just a bunch of other bs.  I haven't even looked up their names yet, but these young men were a blast to talk to and I told them as I was leaving that it's cool and all that they are D-1 football players, but it's their attitudes and positive outlooks that make them impressive, and to not ever change that and to stay that way.
