I must’ve missed that UT is getting a new arena. Going from 16,000 to 10,000 is a serious downsize. Probably smart, though. The Erwin (sp?) Center was always half empty and kinda sad. Thoughts on the new one? Looks weirdly basic to be Texas.

Skin-ben, we've been talking arenas over on the basketball blog! come join.

But also, I think 10k is about right (firm believer around 9-10k is right for KSU Cats U arena too). I doubt UT breaks 5 figures more than a few times a year.

Quote
In hopes of providing a more intimate fan experience, the new arena will be designed to seat 10,000 during basketball games and can expand to 15,000 seats for events such as concerts and shows. Students will now have seating around the floor instead of only behind the baskets.

The Worst College Football Stadiums

20. University of Kansas: David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium

Lawrence, Kansas

Kansas Memorial is one of the oldest stadiums in college football — it was built in 1920 and dedicated to students who were killed in World War I. It has history and gorgeous architecture, but the place needs some attention, fans say.
Writes one, in a Google review: "Very old stadium that badly needs an upgrade. The bathrooms were not even air conditioned. Uncomfortable bench seating."
Others say the game day atmosphere is lacking. It doesn't help that the Jayhawks have gone from a powerful annual bowl team to a powderpuff squad in the tough Big 12.

Top 50 stadiums in the US, 4 from the Big 12:
BSFS

It's not exactly the top 50 in the US, if they only include one from each state.

In Port Allen, LA on business.  Wandered over to Baton Rouge to check out LSU.  Circled the baseball stadium.

Thanks, Tom.

SEC baseball stades are ridic.

Think K-State should do a similar version of Hail States condo/lofts somewhere around the Toint. Don't think they'd have any issues selling them.

A few of the football field.  The end zone additions dwarf our WSC

For KU renovation talk enthusiasts... the dark square windows in this pix define the original bowl at LSU.  They then have this concrete super structure outside that supporting 3 luxury/suite levels and the upper deck.

Can’t remember if we’ve talked about this or not, and at this point it’s like 5 moz. old, but whatever. Here’s this. Happy for them. Just wish it could be on campus.

I know MLS wants to expand, but is San Diego a viable option?  Would be a good thing to combo with.

My word, look at what Louisville did. They previously had no bleachers at all in their end zone, so they rectified it by adding this...bird...tail? Honestly I think they were jelly of North Texas and wanted something even pointier.

it's like they wanted to make the stade appear taller without adding a ton of seats.  They should have added a section that's 4 seats wide, and goes up like 1,000 rows.  Only add's 4k seats, but would look really impressive.

I like their stadium. Every time I drove past their digs, it pissed me off we didn't invite them to the conference.

The seats on the opposite sideline appear to be built at roughly a 70 degree angle, and the upper deck seating is completely vertical.

Watched a game last year from the north endzone. Not bad venue but it looks much nicer from the outside.

That's a pretty impressive stadium, bird tail endzone notwithstanding.  Wonder if they'll be able to fill it out.
