Wear a size "M" in 47 brand hats.  Facial features...someone told me I look like David Franco one time.  :dunno:

Have recently given some thought to growing my hair out.  I can't decide if it is a good idea or not. Need reasons to proceed in growing hair out.

Oh man, what a thread...

First, there is really no easy way to get through the awkward phase.  If you are in college, or work outside, you can just wear a ball cap for a few months and try and hide it.

There is no magic hair cut that will make it look good during the awkward phase.

If your hair is course/thick/wavy, then you'll have a bit harder time of it.  Mine is pretty wavy and pretty course.  I basically just said eff it, and let it go for several months.  To attempt to tame it, I put loads of sculpting paste and crazy crap like that in it to make it somewhat presentable.   A CEO of a client once referred to me as "the guy with the mushroom hair" during the awkward phase.

If you have straight hair, there is much less of an awkward phase.

It also helps to have a pretty clear goal of what you want your hair to look like.  Early on, I was kinda thinking Michael Douglas in Romancing the Stone.  It pretty much still looks like that, sometimes I trim it a bit shorter, and sometimes it gets a bit longer.

I was initially very nervous about work, but have since found it to be passable in even the most conservative situations if you dress appropriately.  It's a bit eccentric, for sure.

Has anyone ever grown their hair out?
Yeah, not acceptable after the age of 21. Unless you're trying a Brad Pittesque long wavy hair experiment

I think every year was the drug years for the Beatles, and that is largely why they were so good.

Can confirm that the awkward phase is terrible. It's basically the only thing keeping me from growing it out again (have grown it out twice in my life and had it long for the last 4 years before cutting it this last time).
I think this yoman guy is on to something....

I would have let my hair continue to grow if it wasn't for the fascisty appearance rules at my place of employment.

Congratulations on the purchase of your shiny new long hair! Here are a few tips to help you get started:

Pros:

lots of options! wow, you can do all sorts of things with your long hair!
where does that part go? doesn't matter! because long hair!
headbands/bandanas look so cool on you now!
charming amounts of hair coming out the sides of your favorite hat!
also you don't have to ever wear a hat! but you can if you want to! because long hair!
get it wet and watch how it all goes in one direction! (preferably towards the rear of your head)
no more getting a sunburnt head, or mistaken for a riley rat!
that filly can't run her hands through your buzz cut, stupid!
if you play an instrument, congratulations! you now look better playing it!
ray-bans, man

Cons:

holy crap you can never and i mean never skip a morning shower before work anymore
previously discussed awkward in-between time is a real thing. very crucial to keep it under control during the in-between time. hats are your friend outside work. during work, just shower all the time and hope for the best
you are now that guy with the long hair. depending on your job and social circles, this may be a negative
can have a tendency to always fall in your eyes. get that crap out of there; you don't want to look like a delinquent.

This is where mine is now. Was definitely tough to get through the weird phase at the office and all, as Pete already stated, but a little product always helps. I usually almost always wore a hat away from work for awhile too, as everyone else has stated. But, I think the biggest key is keeping the back/neck area trimmed/groomed while growing out the top/sides to make it look like its almost always supposed to be that way (not all one length and giving away you're letting it go). Looks good at work now, can wear hats of any kind still, and can rock a pretty sweet top/backish pony tail when working out or exercising. Give it a go, it's well worth it.

Wow, second time I have posted this in a couple days, but here is your answer...(which is GOOD, btw)...that's basically Cartier on the lower left.
