Two out of the last three days, TV receiver wouldn't load properly. Had to do a soft reset the 1st time...and hard reset the 2nd(which meant losing stored DVR, no big deal for me tho). Not liking where this is going.   :ohno:

Internet has been fine.

Froze up twice in the last hour. Box is bad. Called in, shipping one out tomorrow.  :|

Receiver AIDS....  :runaway:

My first year promotional rate is about to expire, has anyone had good luck getting them to continue the promotional rate if you threaten to cancel?

They will meet your demands, as long as you don't have a bare-minimum package and as long as there are competitors in your market.

they will try to just give you more services at the same price.  Make sure that they know that you want your cost lower.

This is why I got rid of Uverse.  No local presence becomes a #big problem once you start having hardware issues.  Someone forgot to push the #"send" button somewhere, and my replacement modem/router didn't get shipped, so I was without internet/tv for a solid week.  #Not Cool

I told them I was thinking about getting Google Fiber, even though it wasn't even in my part of town yet, and they slashed by bill in half.

I have Cox and dish/direct tv in my area so I have plenty of competitors, in every interaction I have had with them they've almost gone out of their way to lower my bill, I was just hoping they wouldn't pay hardball on the first year promotional rate

I'd like to call and threaten to cancel my Uverse so I can get a lower rate, but I'm afraid they will call my bluff and I don't really want to cancel.

they won't call it.  I actually cancelled last fall and it wasn't just a phone call.

The woman I talked to told me to just call back in 12 months and renegotiate.  It was kind of funny.

I haven't done it yet because we're moving soon and I didn't want to get locked into AT&T until I got a new permanent residence.  I plan on playing them and Time Warner against each other as soon as we buy a house and move in.

Time Warner didn't want to negotiate at all.  But my only other option was Surewest which was a boat load cheaper.  Like $130ish vs $90ish for the same stuff, except the TMC has the WatchESPN agreement.

I've been told SureWest is awful.  Therefore, I'm probably not going to get it.

I don't have any personal experience with TW, but I've heard from other people that they don't negotiate

I've had both.  Time Warner has better internet, worse TV, and their prices are pretty stable.

ATT has way better TV, slower and more expensive internet, and your bill fluctuates more than the stock market.

I have no complaints with Surewest.   :dunno:  I sure AF wouldn't pay $40/month more for anything else.

I think it depends on the value of your account (what type of services you have) and where you live.  For me, I have one of their higher internet packages and more than basic digital TV.  Also, TWC has competition in my area from ATT, Google, satellite & Grande Communications.  ATT and Google are in the middle of a big market grab here at the moment, so maybe TWC is more willing to deal in my market than others.

Whenever my bill goes up, I call and tell them that I don't think I'm getting value from their services commensurate with what I'm paying, and that "another provider" is offering a better package for substantially less.  They were very willing to lower my bill by $45 on the spot last time I called.

My promotional year rate of Uverse was up a few months ago.  I called in and said I want to keep my same rate.  Didn't threaten to cancel or anything.  They said, sounds good.

Uverse is full of jackoffs super bad at their job.  Keep that in mind and you should be able to get what you want.

Must be regional thing. They dropped $35 off when I asked for directions to return their boxes.

The receiver in my room loses signal probably about once a week. (nbd) The internet has been oddly reliable. I don't think it's ever had any problems. U-Verse is roses compared to garbage Cox or Bright House.

Pro-tip on the call in to haggle a better rate.  If they start stonewalling you, just mouth off a "Fine, well please cancel my policy" and hangup.  Per procedures, they have to get all this cancellation paperwork filled out, so they need some additional information, but they aren't legally allowed to keep charging you after you said that.  So they have to call back, at which you speak to a retainment specialist and not a jerk-off GA call center guy.  They'll cut you a better deal and you can be on your way.
